Options for high HP Auto's
I know I am beating this horse to death, but I am not looking forward to tuning a 12-1400 hp clutch car. I gotta admit I am not real familiar with auto's. I have heard a Bruno or a Len drive allows you to bolt a Lenco up to the rear of it and it works like a Lenco normally would except it uses a Tq converter instead of a clutch.
I need some guidance on this. I have to be able to pull the Lenco handles (or something similar) but would like to run it with a converter.

After looking at the Lenco racing web site, the 3 spd Lenco drive looks pretty good...MMMmmmm. Looks like it has what I want, cool handles to pull and a converter.
Mikes racing trannys out of california. cost 2500,built to power levels in excess of 2000hp in a 3000lb car.I use an hurst pistol grip quarterstick with electric rpm assist if wanted. Reverse valve body ,manual shift.300m input shaft.I use a 10inch 2000 stall locked converter with two anti baloon plates. My combo makes plenty of low torque so no big stall is needed. This is its 3rd year with no problems.mikes 400. is. what it is called.www.mikestransmission.com

Mike,
I went to a car show today and talked to a guy who has an 1150 hp blown 540 in a 55 chevy. Car runs 8.8's at over 145. He has the same Mikes transmission you have. I will give them a call and probably run that. They are about a 1 1/2 drive from me.
Sounds like a good decision. If I ever went with an auto, that is probably the route I would take. I talked with Mike prior to getting the G-Force and he was extremely knowledgeable.
Why do you think a lot of guys go with the 2-speed Powerglide based units instead of the 3-speed Turbo 400 units?

It is becasue of the weight of the vehicle. Most Glides have a first gear ratio of around 1.8. In a car with a lot of power and not much weight you do not need all that gear to get it moving, Like Tom said on another site, sorta like a traction control for dummies.
Another thing nice about the 400 is it will allow me to run the full 1400 ish HP this motor should make. All that in a 3000# race weight should be plenty fast.
Powerglides are the preferred auto trans (actually auto or manual) in most Super classes (Super Gas/Super Comp). They eat less HP (put more HP to the ground) and will excellerate a car faster than a 3-spd up to around 2800 lbs. weight. Once you exceed 2800 lbs. your often better off running a 3 spd such as the T-350/400.
Deen - My buddy with the worlds fastest 40 Ford AA/Gas 3200 lbs is running a PG with a 4500 stall. I think with his new 28 psi blower and 9000+ rpm it's got to be in the 2500 hp range.
Lenco - Is something that you better have a crew member who knows all about them and can rebuild them. Then you have to be trained on how to drive them. Simple things like incorrect burnout, clutch settings, or launch technic and you can break them.
