I am replacing the engine in my car (1990 L98) to a 383. In order to bolt on the accessories on the new engine onto the brackets off the old engine, how concerned do I need to be with buying a compatible 383 block? I'm assuming I can't just get any 383 say, a pre-87 block ; it needs to be 1 piece rear seal, late model two bolt deal?

Pretty much any 4" bore sbc will work. 1962 to 1967 327s had the small journal mains, but even that doesn't affect the accessories. In 1967 or '68 they started drilling the 3 holes on the end of the heads that DOES affect accessory mounting, but thats not the block. There is nothing about the rear seal that concerns accessories. In 1980 the dipstick changed sides if you consider that in the category.
Thanks for answering. That's great to know...so, i could get just about any sbc stroker shortblock (let's say) keep my stock cylindar heads (P&P) and be ok vis a vis the accessory mountings...
There is a premium price on the 1 piece seal, newer blocks, due to performance?
I do understand that there are performance differences in 2 bolt, 4 bolt, and the number of rear seals that evolved over time... will that matter with, say, the automatic transmission fitment? Or anything else?
Im looking to run about 400 hp.

Yes.

There is no "performance" difference in the seal type or the number of bolts retaining the main caps. The one piece seal may be more reliable and the 4 bolt mains are stronger, but neither contribute to horsepower.

The transmission and everything else will bolt up with no problem. The crankshaft flange for the flexplate is different between the one and two piece seal cranks, but unless you have the new engine internally balanced, you will be replacing the flexplate, anyhow.
