Turning a Pontiac 400 into a 455 is done mainly by installing a 455 crank and boring the cylinder .30 This allowed the numbers matching block to remain with the car. The end result is equivalent to a standard bore 455.

Awesome. I bought a huge project 10th Anniversary 403 auto car. It came with an Olds 455, but I just bought and LS1 for it.

Yours looks amazing!

I sold this 79 Z28 a few years back to buy my 94 C4 convertible which is also sold..... I restored the Z28 pretty much ground up. The block/heads looks all stock, but it was filled with go fast goodies. Id love another 2nd gen one of these days.

Wound up buying a 4th gen Z28 back in may of this year. I got it for a song and its so cheap to get parts for its not even funny!!! Well, actually, it is funny!!!! Im having fun with it though and since owning several LT1 Vettes, I was familiar with the engine. Ive been doing suspension mods to it lately. Working from the rear towards the front.

Heres a quick pic

Here's my 1978 that's not a true WS6 car but has a really decent restoration done on it. Keisler 5 speed, Sandon AC, new interior, suspension is all new with polyurethane bushings, thunderchicken was clearcoated over. Too much to list but car is done really nice. I got lucky finding her.

8388 that is a stunning car, job well done!

Yeah I really do like the 5 speed, the engine has a 455 crank in a 400 block with an Edelbrock manifold and carb, a 501 lift 292 duration cam so it has a little lope to it but all in all it's very streetable and cruises at 70MPH below 2000RPM's. Throws are a little longer than my ZO6 but not too bad. It has a Zoom clutch and the pedal pressure is a little high but not outrageous. I have to keep remembering this is a 1978 car.

vbu2c5, looks like you got yourself a very nice 78'. Do you know if the 5 speed is a Doug Nash? 70mph@ below 2000 rpms is definitely the way to go. Having an overdrive final drive ratio is a major improvement on these cars.

It's a Borg Warner T-45 5 speed tranmission that's been remanufactured by Keisler Engineering. Shifts nice with no shuddering, I'm just a little spoiled and am considering putting a hydraulic clutch in it. The guy that built it put all the WS6 suspension parts on it and it has a nice tight feel to the steering. Thanks for the compliment.

That's interesting. I figured that with the stock location of your shifter, that a Doug Nash linkage style tranny was necessary. If you ever get a chance to take some pics of the tranny, I would be interested in seeing how they did it.

8388, you know your stuff sir, in the receipts for the car there was a purchase of a new trans tunnel adapter pan. I didn't build the car but the receipts for everything he did to the car are there. I'm still decoding the cowl ID tag but it's very possible this was an auto trans car before the rebuild. I'll do some more digging on my day off tomorrow and see what I find. Also it's possible Keisler does some modifications to help with the stock location.

You can put in the TKO600 or TKO500 (both 5-speeds) with no modifications to the floor. Shifter will end up in the stock location. The kits come with a new cross member and everything else needed. I put one in mine a few months ago.

There are a few problems with the Doug Nash 5-speed(Richmond 4+1 now). They aren't overdrive transmissions. 5th gear is 1:1, the same as 4th in a 4-speed. First is 3.28:1 in the Richmond, so they work best with rear ends in the 2.73-3.36 range. And the output housing where the shift plate mounts is farther back on the Richmond than it is on the Muncie. To move the shifter to the proper location on an F-body you'd need to make a custom adaptor plate for the shifter.

Had a Nash 5 speed years ago on another toy. Had 2.56 in the rear, and with the amount of torque the engine made, it was a great combo. Loved it on the highway.

Default 75 455 HO 4 speed

This was my fun Ride for many years from HS until I parted it out due to extreme rust. I picked up an Arizona rust Free replacement about 10 years ago to replace it. UNfortunately the Arizona car is a 400 auto with a pitiful 256 rear. Tight and smooth but not the beast the 455 was. I do still have that entire driveline that will wind up being installed eventually.I will be installing the 323 rear sooner than later! Right now I have been waiting about 7 years for a friend to paint her original silver. He only does GTO's & vintage pontiacs but is a 2 man slow moving shop. This year it will happen one way or the other as it is ready mechanically and I have been shopping painters in the area.Enjoy Em the prices are still climbing!!!

I had a citrus green Z just like yours only a straight bumper
I do not like green but that color in person has a certain pop to it.
Had the green interior also little different.

Was a total frame off perfect car
Unfortunately an impound yard got ahold of it while playing too hard on the street one night, blew the motor rearend and stole tons of parts off it.
