Default Engine Bolt finishes

I am freshening up the engine compartment of my 67 427/390 and have painted most brackets (PS, alt. coil, etc.) with the appropriate hue with the paints from Quanta restoration. Can anyone help me with the bolt finishes? some were painted (now stripped) and I am not sure if they should be painted again or left bare. If they are bare what is the plating on them (the silver ones, not the "black plated" ones?) is it cad plating? can I do them again with an Eastwood kit? is there anyway to freshen them up (i have been careful NOT to use a wire wheel on the actual bolt head) by polishing them? and if so with what polish/compound?

Does anyone have a complete list of "bolt/nut" finishes for the engine bay area?

I am of course digging in on this tonight and over the weekend, so all and any FAST help is appreciated - THANKS

Hope this helps. Intake bolts with an aluminum manifold are natural, or MIGHT have some silver paint on them. Anything that bolts TO the intake are natural...except the coil bracket, which are black phosphate. Remember that the engine was supplied as a unit, SO everything shipped on the engine would be engine color, including water pump bolts, etc., EVEN the exhaust manifolds themselves would be engine orange. Hey Chuck (was just reading your Western Auto/Knock post - very good) - What about the bolts that hold the PS pump bracket to the block - they were painted black when I took them off, but I don't see how the factory would have painted them from the research I've done - It seems like they should be bare.....?????

I would say bare/natural too. That was a true "deal" at Western Auto. Strangest thing I've seen for some time. :) Haven't stopped back lately. Maybe they're doing the convertible top too ! Chuck

Chuck - forget about convertible tops - I'm wondering if they do engine detailing, 435 conversions, etc. :D
