Default Starter disassembly

Anybody know of any good articles discussing a starter rebuild?

Thanks :flag

I'm reasonably certain that Corvette Fever or Vette Magazine had one within the last year or so. Or was that the alternator?

The chassis overhaul manual for your year, but probably almost any year will work as the 10MT starters are all basically the same. They are very easy to rebuild. The one tough job is replacing the armature bushings. For this I recommend you find a local rebuilder, and take it to them. A small shop will probably do it while you wait. Bring both the armature and both end frames so they can select the right bushing ID for your armature.

The brushes, shift lever, and Bendix drive can be bought almost anywhere and are usually all you need to change if the armature and field windings pass static continutity check.

You can also buy a solenoid rebuild kit and just rebuild your solenoid instead of buying a new one.

Cars & Parts Corvette starting in April 2002. It was a four part article. It was for a starter from a C1 283.
