Default Body removal help

I don't post here often, but I figured if anyone knew the answers to these questions, it would be here....

OK, new problem (for me). I have a couple of body mount bolts that are spinning around without coming out. The encapsulated nuts are spinning with the bolts. I know I'm not the first one to have this problem. How do I get them out?

Second question.... I can only find 10 body bolts in my 64 Vert. 2 in front of firewall, 1 under each sill, 2 behind the seats in the middle, 1 each in the covered hole in the fenderwell, and 1 on each side of the gas tank area. The ones that seem to be missing are the ones that would be behind the seats near the outside edges or the floor. My car is an early 64. There are no holes or anything.

Shame shame on you, and why haven't you posted here?

you will have to remove the metal cage or cut the glass so you can put vice grips on the nut.

Can't help you on the second q...but all the body mounts should be visible

Many times I have been able to jam the turning nut with a screwdriver or other metal object without damaging the frame or body.

Try grinding the heads off the bolts with a die grinder. It might take awhile but it beats damaging anything on the body or frame. Once the body's off It'll be much easier to deal with extracting the bolts/nuts. On my '68 I couldn't reach the bolts in front of the rear wheels well enough to grind on them so I used a cutting torch. I used a section of exhaust pipe as a heat shield and shot the flame down the middle of the tube to cut the heads off the bolts. Fire extinguisher was standing by and a grimace on the face the whole time!

I think I'll stick with a small grinding tool.... Fire makes me a little nervous. Lost a 62 to fire back in the 70's.

I used a sawz-all to cut through three of my bolts. Cut right through the aluminum spacer... The bolts are replacable... no frame or body damage incurred. Once the body is off you can nurse/repair the nuts. Use a torch and easy out if the nut is still good... Good luck!!! :seeya

Woo-Hoo.... Finally got all the bolts out. Didn't have to cut anything. Once I took the sidepipes off, I could see the captive nuts and was able to get a pair of vise grips on them. The cage had rusted off the #2 mount nuts on both sides. The driver's side #4 mount is still spinning, but the mount on the frame is rusted enough for the bolt head to pull through.
By the looks of everything, I may have to replace the entire back half of the frame. Dr Rebuild sells a back half from the transmission crossmember back for about $2300. Looks like that's the direction I'll be going. The front half of the frame looks brand new????.
Everything is unbolted and triple checked, so as soon as I get my body lift slings from LIC, off comes the body. Hopefully before the end of next week.
