There are lots of "clues", but the easiest to spot without putting the car up in the air are:
1. If it's an A.O. Smith body, it didn't have factory sidepipes.
2. If the brackets that stick down from the sill for the bottom attachment of the rocker moldings are there and are bent back out of the way inboard of the pipes or have been cut off, it didn't have factory sidepipes.
3. If the screwed-on triangular outboard splash shields between the bottom of the fender and the frame have the rubber seals stapled to them, it didn't have factory sidepipes.
