INDIANAPOLIS — Hoosiers could legally defend themselves against police officers who enter their home under a measure that the Indiana House approved on a 74-24 vote, moving it another step toward becoming law, on Thursday.
The measure would overturn last year’s Indiana Supreme Court decision. The court ruled that homeowners do not have the right to use force against law enforcement officials who they believe are illegally entering their homes.

I just did something I've never done before and e-mailed my represenative about HB 5831 and 5167, don't really know their stance on it, but decided not to take any chances. I pasted a copy of me e-mail below, in case anybody else is thinking about doing this as well.
Mr. Beiser,
This is my first time writing anybody in political office, but I thought this is important enough to start. A large part of your constituency lives in rural areas where hunting and shooting are both popular forms or recreation. Having those of us that own pistols, being kept track of like sex offenders by the government, seems a bit outrageous. What's next, registering my German Shepard, because he may be used to do harm in the wrong hands. It's bad enough those of us in Illinois have to use FOID cards, would love to see the statistic on criminals commiting gun crimes that have FOID cards. Now they also want to tax our ammunition to pay for health bills for gun crimes. Nothing like punishing lawfull tax payers for a hobby. Might as well raise the tax on gasoline for drunk driving injuries, would make as much sense. If your position, was against HB5831 and HB5167 to begin with, thank you!! If not, please reconsider, many of your gun owning constituency is starting to pay close attention.
Thanks for your time
Patrick

Doing what you did is what is important!!!
It might lead to ending up on one of their mailing lists but that is a small price to pay.
I just e-mailed Rep. Pam Roth yesterday telling her as long as she supported 2A I would support her. When others realize they might be voted out for their opposition they might come around.
As long as we are passing out thanks I would like to thank MoparJimmy for the six shots he allowed me rekindling my interest in the sport and Pfrank for tuning me on to http://illinoiscarry.com/forum/ ...
AND thanks to the CF mods for allowing this important info to run!

Earlier this week a Muskegon County, MI man shot himself in the foot while cleaning his .380 caliber Cobra pistol.
The 26-year-old was having trouble with his gun malfunctioning. In the process of breaking the gun down to clean it he took the magazine out and the safety off, but was having difficulty moving the slide. He had the gun pointed down and was attempting to pull the slide when the gun discharged. There was damage to his second and third toe.
Police Officers responded after the man had been taken to the hospital. The case was closed after the man was given some “gun safety” instruction by a sheriff’s deputy who handled the report. Hopefully he learned a valuable lesson.
Claiming House Republicans ambushed them by bringing two pro-gun bills to the floor without prior notice, Iowa House Democrats stormed out of the Capitol in a mass walkout this past Wednesday.
Several hours later, the Democrats returned to the Statehouse and the bills passed the Republican-controlled House without further theatrics (Republicans have a 60-40 majority).
So, in a sense, the mass exodus of all 40 House Democrats served no purpose other than to delay the inevitable and, perhaps, to cause a scene.
At the Wednesday press conference, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy characterized the bills as eliminating “all gun laws, gone, not through legislation, but through altering the Iowa Constitution.”
“We left in protest so that there could be some openness and transparency and some sunlight drawn on what this issue is: very, very extreme,” he said.
To shed some light on what all the fuss was about, the first bill was House Joint Resolution 2009: Iowa Right to Keep and Bear Arms State Constitutional Amendment.
Since Iowa is one of six states without the right to keep and bear arms in its constitution, lawmakers felt it necessary to establish this fundamental right. However, opponents of the proposed amendment took issue with its unequivocal and explicit language:
“The right of individuals to acquire, keep, possess, transport, carry, transfer, and use arms for defense of life and liberty and for all other legitimate purposes is fundamental and shall not be denied or infringed. Mandatory licensing, registration, or special taxation as a condition of the exercise of this right is prohibited, and any other restriction shall be subject to strict scrutiny.”

It is a GREAT (but VERY expensive hobby)!
Now THAT costs $$$$$$$.
I gotta thank Bob, and vicariously it seems Jim also, for rekindling my interest in guns.
I have three in hand and I'm now chasing a fourth, an Uberti 1858 New Army Conversion, 8" barrel in .45 Colt. One of my friends from the Martin Guitar Forum says it is a great handgun: beautiful to look at, beautifully made, and beautiful to shoot.

LuAnn is questioning my friendship with both Bob and Jim, but Jack knows better.
