PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — A judge has issued a temporary restraining order to prevent the Illinois State Police from releasing the names of registered gun owners in the state — something the agency doesn't want to do anyway.
The order was handed down Friday in Peoria. It is the latest chapter in a battle between the state's attorney general and police force over the release of names of the state's Firearm Owners Identification cardholders.
Last week, responding to a Freedom of Information request from The Associated Press, Attorney General Lisa Madigan ruled the names are public information and should be disclosed by the state police.
The state police refused to do so and Friday four Peoria-area members of the Illinois State Rifle Association and the association asked Judge Scott Shore to issue the order.
Maybe Governor Jello can add this to his list of broken campaign promises. I didn't vote for the bozo, but it seems like I remember that he wouldn't sign a tax increase higher than 1%, supported the death penalty, and I think he was against concealed carry. He changed his stance on the first two so maybe he'll keep up his streak (doubtful though).
On a positive note, I'm all for concealed carry, completed the petition and sent the link on to a few friends.
All of the people they want to prevent from carrying firearms are already carrying them anyways, because they know they have more rights than their victims in this state. . . Not sure who they are trying to protect here?

What has always astonished me is they don't see the potential revenue stream (or river) here. Why not add firearms to the sin tax list with 10 extra bucks per piece? I would gladly donate $100 for an Illinois carry permit fee, after all I just paid the state of Utah $63 for a small piece of paper. I'm sure there would be some type of training or safety classes in evolved, cha-ching!
I'm hardly a go getter when it comes to politics but I sent 18 e-mails out to the supporters of resent bills and received 12 thank you replies. Sooner or later these people will realize keeping their jobs might hinge on this issue, remind them of that NOW!
Wisconsin will have CCW in the near by future leaving us the only State who's law abiding citizenry are not allowed to protect themselvesand others.
Help the cause and get involved!!!

I thought that was what them 10 gallon hats was fer?
Im probably gonna be in the minority here and get blasted, but... how do you think the Police feel about conceal carry firearms? Its a cops worst nightmare. Everyone and their mom packing a gun. It makes a Police Officers job even more dangerous than it already is.
For those who would actually shoot an officer or commit a crime with a gun, I'm guessing carrying a concealed firearm isn't really a charge they are concerned with.
Also, they already have the ability to protect themselves and the training to deal with those people. I really don't see that as a reason why the rest of us should be stuck yelling at someone else with a gun posing a threat to us "hey, that's illegal and ima call the cops!".

We won't "blast ya", you're one of the good guys!
How would an officer feel if his life were saved by a citizen with a legally carried firearm, we would have their back too? It’s a break glass in case of emergency type thing. The object is to put fear and question in the mind of a criminal and not have it the other way around.

A small blast but not really aimed at you, just at your error(s). Where you're right, I have to say that to a great extent I don't care.
Our rights don't exist based on whether they make someone else's job easier. 2nd amendment rights are no more subject to police comfort than the 4th and 5th amendments are subject to prosecutor comfort, or than 1st amendment rights are subject to politician comfort.
As for actual danger, the facts are overwhelmingly consistent in supporting the conclusion that any increase in danger to police is far offset in an increase in danger to criminals and a reduction in danger to their victims.
And as for "everyone and their mom packing a gun", that's the kind of fact-free emotionally charged liberal talking point that makes it so hard to have a rational discussion on this topic. Even in "shall issue" states, a very small fraction actually carries a weapon. And those that do carry tend to have received training of some kind and take periodic practice.

Well said, J. I for one don't care if it makes a cops job any harder. It's MY right to protect MYSELF however I see fit. All this bill will do is allow LAW ABIDING citizens to LEGALLY carry a firearm. The criminals already have them!
The LEO's I met while living in Texas had no issues w/conceal permit holders. I have to admit most owned vettes. Gosh, what happend to "all the blood in the streets" in the states that allow conceal carry? Sorry this is a hot button issue w/me!

Update:
ISRA’s LAWSUIT, INCLUDING TRO RELIEF, HAS EXCELLENT RESULTS
The lawsuit filed on behalf of ISRA and its members on March 10, 2011, is moving forward with excellent results. After Attorney General Lisa Madigan announced that her office believes that release of FOID information to the public is proper under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, the ISRA filed suit in Peoria (10th Judicial District) seeking a temporary restraining order preventing the release of names of FOID holders.
As previously reported, the temporary restraining order (TRO) was granted by judge Scott Shore, who then scheduled a status hearing for March 15th to set a date set for hearing arguments regarding the issuance of a preliminary injunction, since the TRO normally expires in ten days.
Prior to his court appearance on behalf of ISRA and the member plaintiffs, attorney Stanley Tucker was notified of a letter sent to Attorney General Lisa Madigan that was signed by 12 (a majority) of the Illinois congressional delegation. The non-partisan letter requested Lisa Madigan to rescind an attorney general directive issued to the Illinois State Police that sided with the FOIA request made by the Associated Press’ representative that the
ISP release the names of FOID holders.
The latest court order extended the TRO indefinitely, until further order of court, and another “status” hearing was scheduled for April 14th. The defendants may file pleadings requesting additional relief, but for now the privacy of law-abiding firearm owners and the interest of public safety remain protected.
ISRA is the state's leading advocate of safe, lawful and responsible firearm ownership. For more than a century, the ISRA has represented the interests of millions of law-abiding Illinois firearm owners.
