Anybody remember King Speed shop in Lansing IL.? And whatever happened to their car the Kingray? Just wondering, I saw what appeared to be my old '85 the other day that had been at that shop dozens of times for mods! I know King closed awhile ago, but I can still remember the first time I heard the Kingray fire up, after that the mods on my cars never stopped! Anyways, I figured somebodys gotta be old enough on here to remember them! :yesnod: :seeya
I think I actually have one of Ron from Kings bussiness cards in my desk. Nobody knows what happened to the Kingray huh? Now I gotta find the old Corvette Fever it was in. :seeya
I guess I am showing my age, but I remember when they use run the "The Judge", and that was before Pontiac came out with a GTO wannabe with the same name (Oh yea, King made a bunch off the General with that one - turned out that King had copyrighted the name).
Was this the shop you could see just south of I-80 and Torrence? I remeber when I was growing up (still am) the Corvette shop on my many trips to visit geographically transplanted family.
I not only remember the shop, but lived it. My father and uncle opened it when I was very, very young. I worked there for quite a few years. I found the Kingray a couple of years ago. After Buddy passed away, Ron sold it to someone, who sold it to a young man in Wisconsin. I was able to contact him. He is in the service and had been deployed. He said the car was in pretty rough shape. I know that the motor had been replaced before Ron sold it. Unfortunately, I had a computer hacking attack and lost all my stored emails and addresses. So, I lost all his contact information. I was hoping to send him some information about the car in it's glory days.
I also remember the "King" speed shop, bought a bunch of parts from Bud and Ron, and from Bud's brother Bob, at the shop on Cicero ave in oak lawn. I don't know if anyone remembers this, but Bud built the "Judge" 32 ford behind the Clark gas station in Homewood, il. I remember him telling me the first time he fired the car up, and turned it loose at the station, it pulled the wheels (something he said he was not ready for), flew out of the station, across the street and almost ran into the library. The only thing that saved him was killing the magneto and luckily he had the wheels turned to the right. lol I miss those guys. Anyone remember the King racing team? at one time it was the largest team in the country. Just thought you guys might enjoy this.
Hey, That orange and white Camaro was My car with Shelly Fishman and frank Neace. They have both passed away but Im still kickin and living in Las Vegas. We were part of the King speed team out of Lansing and we lived in Chi on the south side. Sold the first green and yellow camaro to the Tuff rabbit Burell Bros but they crashed it in Tex at a strip there. Sold the 70 High Chapparal to a Doctor in 1972. Really enjoyed raceing in the old days traveled with the UDRA circut and the coca-cola team. Great to see the car on here,,Don Conner.

I have a 1968 Camaro that supposedly was a King Speed Shop Camaro. Was told by the guy I purchased it from, an ex-brother-in-law, that when he bought it, sometime in the late 1980's, that he could see the words, KING SPEED SHOP, on the doors.
Wondering if anyone remembers it.
1968 Camaro
Blue with the White Big Block Racing Stripes.
Big Block, 4 speed, and I believe an Olds rear end.

Well, I can say that when I striped the car for painting, I could tell that the front end was replaced. I believe the story is that the car was bought from a junk yard, and resurrected.

There was another King Speed Shop 1968 Camaro, Neil Hannewyk, The "Paintmaker 1". And it was lettered on the door, In the orange and white paint scheme.
I had seen the "Kingray" numerous times on my neighbors driveway. I lived two blocks north of Bud H. I did not know him. King would have a very nice car show.
I also would go to "Whites Pit Stop". They also had a place in Lansing, Illinois. They may have had a place in Indiana too. I did know Dave White a little bit. He went to the same high school and rode the same school bus as me. He was running the shop in Lansing after high school. He was probably working there while still in high school. I don't know what he does now.
Talk about old stuff here, I lived in Roseland and Dolton back in the day. The picture of Whites Pit Stop and the Bike Joint brings back lots of memories. Used to go the King Speed also.
