Although this website has been both a "treasure trove" of Corvette information, as well as a tremendous source of plain old entertainment, via the "off topic" threads, I can get really tired of this place if it becomes too difficult to navigate. Edmunds.com also tried to be "something for everyone", and "updated" itself out of being one of my favorite places on the web. I hardly go there anymore.
It's been said numerous times before, and "carnut 101" said it most recently and directly....
It wasn't broke, so WHY IS SOMEONE TRYING TO FIX IT????
Probably someone sold somebody a bill of goods........
I think I located part of the problem in the multiple instances showing up in the "My Recent Topics" search...
Every time "I" make another post or reply to a thread, it shows up AGAIN as another list element instead of just updating the the existing entry. ALL entries are updated with the new time, but are sorted by both the initial entry time as well as the update time.
However, if you mouse-over the titles of those duplicate listings, you'll find that what gets displayed is the first part of your post in that thread, not the OP. If you mouse-over the first copy of that title, you get to see one of the posts you made in that thread. If you mouse-over the other title, you will see the other post you made in that thread.

After hearing it in this thread, I think I've experienced a slowdown as well.
I hope this all gets fixed so the forum operates better than it did before.

with all of the above.
Furthermore, I can no longer distinguish between visited and unvisited thread links - they all remain the same shade of gray - - extremely annoying.
All of the archive data is safe, no worries there I'm just rolling them into the "live" database at a slow, steady pace and keeping a close eye on things.
There's never any worry about data loss here. There's never fewer than three systems with an up-to-the-minute copy of the ENTIRE contents of CorvetteForum's database. Then on top of that, we have backups taken at regular intervals.
What I don't understand is why "brains", the IT guy checks in every once in a while, BUT NEVER REALLY ANSWERS THE QUESTION.....
Brains, at least with respect to the "Recent Topics" discussions, the software logic obviously has changed, but isn't "user friendly". WHY??
Now, if it's because the new owner wants it that way, fine, just say so. If it's because there a glitch of some sort, the same as in the LS-Tech Forum, just say so. Either way, I feel that the people who have supported this site for a LONG time, as well as it's vendors, deserve an answer.
Keep in mind, the natives are getting restless, and as someone already said, other websites have "died" when their "upgrades" weren't well received.....

The problem isn't that I haven't responded -- I have made over 70 posts here in a week's timeframe -- it's that so many new threads about the same issues are being created. Lets also not forget, the more time I spend reading and posting is less time spent working on issues.
All of the issues reported have been put on a list, and I'm systematically going through each and every one of them. Many things were fixed within 24 hours of launch, some things within the first couple days, and yet others will require more time to hash out. Rest assured, every reported issue will receive the proper attention.

It seems as if some of the timing problems have returned. I actually got a time-out message from the forum when trying to go from reading a thread, back to the main page of Off Topic.
Also, on a little bit of a rant, those forum members who kept repeating "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", please save yourself the trouble of posting that. The forum did have problems, most of which frequently involved long waits to change pages, move to another forum, etc..
The new speeds seemed to be okay for awhile, and seem to be okay right now, but they were a problem briefly today. However, I realize that sometimes progress is painful.

I'm assuming this is why old threads that come up in the search list give a message that they are not avialable. I've been doing a lot of searches lately and any thread more than about 1-1/2 years old will not open. Old threads have good info too.

Jim, I'm by no means a computer expert, so I won't embarass myself by trying to discuss why the Forum is "slow" or "fast". HOWEVER, over the last 7 YEARS, I have spent considerable time on this forum, and I've had very few problems with access or slow loading of pages.
THEREFORE, at least TO ME, it wasn't broke, hence my frustration in seeing it being "fixed". And, it seems that I'm not in a minority in feeling this way.
I am having extreme difficulty even viewing the posts/threads. Sometimes takes two to three minutes to open a thread. Sometimes only get the title and black page, no other information. Became a supporting member seven or eight days ago and have seen no change in my user info. The long delay to display began last night 8/13/08. Also, looking forward to being able to view older posts. Thanks for listening. Good luck. Richard
