Default Back button issue is "back"

On the C1/C2 forum, the back button fails on a small percentage of threads I read.

The back button fails because "www.pointroll.com" has a seemingly endless stream of interim URLs in my Back history.

Thus far I've not found a consistent pattern in the type of adverts. appearing on the pages when this happens, unlike the issues from a few months ago.

We'll look into that. If you can provide any more information, let us know.

Thanks.

Will do.

This morning the issue is happening with the more typical ad.doubleclick.net.

It's either the ad for c7carbon.com at the top of the page :

Or it's the XFinity ad (in Spanish) at the bottom.

A new variation for the afternoon.

Now the Back button has a series of

"http://view.atdmt.com/CNT/iview/4297659" in the Back history.

At the Top of my page is a Domino's ad. (Edit: Subsequent accesses to other pages also showing the same Domino's ad, did not have the same back button issue, so this ad may not be a smoking gun. Maybe it's the Flash ads?)

At the Bottom of the page is an ATT ad.

Thanks, Jeff. Not sure why this problem comes and goes the way it has. I'll send the folks at IB a link to this thread.

Today's activity is the more traditional http://ad.doubleclick.net/adi/N8667.104.

The advertisements on this page are a Flash-based ad for XFinity, that links to http://www.comcast.com/Corporate/Lea...=0&cid=4053494

and at the bottom of the page an ad for rpmtransmissions.com which links to http://www.rpmtransmissions.com/

Happened again tonight, and tonight's adverts were the same XFinity ad as yesterday, and an Amsoil ad.

Since the XFinity ad was present on today's and yesterday's issues, that looks like the offender.

Sure hope someone at IB is paying attention.

Jeff, I'll continue to send links asking IB to check the updates you and others post in this thread. Meanwhile, however, will you try purging your cache and deleting your cookies to make sure you don't have a corrupted file on your computer?

Thanks.

Ok, I will try that.

In the mean time, this morning the problem appeared again. And like yesterday and the day before, the XFinity advert is on the page.

I'm pretty comfortable identifying the XFinity ad as one offender.

And if the XFinity ad is mad at me, it is now at the top of this very page as I edit this post, and the Back button problem persists here too.

By the way, this is only happening on Internet Explorer, not FireFox.

Yes, that's been the experience when the tech and advertising teams have tracked it down before -- a third-party ad posted in conflict with site specifications.

It would be nice if ads at the top/bottom of the page were hidden from view for paying members, as long as the ad isn't from a forum supporting vendor.

I know some of the advertising display rules are already in place so that paying members see fewer ads, but honestly all these ads at the top/bottom of the page do for me right now is make me never want to purchase their products since these ads create so much grief for me.

Oh look, after I posted my comment above (this time from a FireFox browser), I got a Survey Pop Up. The only 2 web pages I have open are this corvette forum thread, and my NASA e-mail - and I'm sure the NASA e-mail did not throw up the pop-up.

Jeff, in addition I have been getting : "stack overflow at line:0" messages and the computer freezes up since this problem started. Also,
"internet explorer has modified page to avoid cross scripting" happens 2 or 3 clicks in.
Not a problem with my computer, since it works everywhere else but here. Hope they get this fixed.

YES, INTERNET EXPLORER IS GETTING BOUND UP HERE.

Thanks.
Deleted all my cookies (but not the cache).

This evening while searching www.Target.com, I experienced the same problem.

Wait for it......XFinity was the advert. appearing on the Target page.

I rest my case.

Dan, I used a different computer today, also with IE, and I get the exact same issues you report above - only when the XFinity ad appears on the page.

Just experienced the same issue myself. And, yes, the Xfinity banner was at the top of the screen when it happened.

Well the good news is the XFinity ad is for a promotion that expires in about a week, so if IB doesn't address it, it will resolve itself.

Not a geek so no clue about what is happening but I have been getting this (Bolded above) a lot in the last couple weeks, but only here! (I’m on at least 4 other forums) I also get knocked off this site many times when my computer detects a problem like that. (Whatever the problem really is) It says I.E is looking for a fix and then sometimes this site is shut down.

I ALWAYS clear cookies and history/ temporary internet files when shutting down every day.

New data: ALthough any computer I use with Internet Explorer suffers from the "back" button issue when the XFinity ad is on the page, only the computer using Internet Explorer 8 gets the stack overflow/cross scripting messages too as described by Dan.

The Forum no longer works under Windows XP, Explorer 8. Simple access to the forum generates a Stack overflow at Line 0 nearly everytime.

The back button and even simple navigation through the Forum will lock up the computer.

I have to go to Chrome just to access this one forum now.
