Default New here

Well, first off, hi all. I am new to the forum. Still a younin (under 30) and I don't have a vette yet, but SWMBO has allowed for me to to buy one. There are some conditions.

1. $5000 limit. (I want a C4 and while not all are in that range, I have seen quite a few.) The $5k limit is a little flexable. I may even using my 97 Blazer as trade if willing.

2. I have to get a new job. Well, does not have to be new. I am on a contract to hire that is coming due soon. I am confidant I will be converted or will find a new one. That is just the wway life is in the IT industry.

A little about me:

I am married, have 2 young children and live just south of Milwaukee WI. Always wanted a vette. When I was 18, the old man bought a vette again, an 84. (Mom and dad had em pre-me. Heck, when I was born, the only cars they had were late 60's stang and early 70's vette. They took the stang to the hospital, softer suspension. ) Well, I got to take it to prom. My girlfriend's mother made the comment "Well, can't do any funny business in there".

I was able to drive on occation and loved. Wanted one before, now NEEDED one. few years later, dad died, there were issues with the engine and such. Neither I nor mom (or my brother) were in a position to fix it at the time, so she sold it.

Well, now I have worked my way up to a high enough salary where I can afford (albeit, limitedly) one now.

I prefer the C4, and coincentally that is what I can afford, at least the earlier ones.

I would really prefer a stick, but I know there are issues with the 4+3. I will see what comes around. I am not adverse to one that needs some work to make it look great, don't want a money pit.

Oh, and if any of you are looking for a Sr. Cisco VoIP Engineer (both field and design) drop me a message. I prefer to telecommute/travel.

Thanks,

Jason Schwefel

Well, I am pragmatic about my perfect vette. What I want is red C1 with white coping. (No I have not picked a year, for the simple fact that I know I will not be getting one for a while.)

What I can afford is an early C4 that will likely be higher in miles and need some TCL. I am not adverse to some mechanical, interior or body work. (The old man was a body man [Worked for Blackhawk back in the day and was the (I think) the lead on creating the standard measurment sheets for the P188 bench system. The P188 was/is a unibody allignment/straightening system.) So, I have a fair amount of knowledge when it comes to refinishing (prolly just enough to be dangerous) and a good amount of mechanical knowledge.

A buddy of his dealt in exotics, brought several Panteras over for him to refinish. When ever he had one to work on, he always seemed to need to go to town to get something. (We lived/the shop was in the sticks.) Mom loved driving it too. One time, he even too my brother and I to grade school in it when we were squirts. We made sure to leave later than normal

So, to me, the perfect C4 is, at the very least one that is drivable, with no major electrical, powertrain or cosmetic flaws, in that order Cosmetic, particularly interior, is of the least concern as it has little impact on drivability. I hate electrical gremlins and want to be as far away from those as possible. That is not to say I do not want one that looks bad, but it will be as much a project as it is a toy.

As I said, I am not afraid of some work. I know how to turn a wrech. Believe it or not, us IT field guys do need to know how put a screw in. Just like with a computer, you push the button on the screwdriver.
