Hello All...
I am new to Vettes and this forum. I have been in need of a new toy/project car to tinker around with.
I have been thru a couple of project cars in the past (a 71 Mustang, a 71 fj40 landcruiser that I dropped a 400 chevy into, and more recently a 73 Mustang that I sold last year). I was a frequent poster over at the Vintage Mustang Forum.
When I began looking for another project car recently, I didn't really want to go back in a Mustang again(been there done that). My searches revealed that I could get into a c4 Vette in decent condition for less than a 73 or earlier mustang. I do realize that parts/service may be more than on an old mustang though.
I purchased an 85 Silver Coupe for $7000 yesterday. I think I got a fair deal. It had one owner since 93 and the carfax report looked good. It seems to be in good shape mecanically. I don't see any rust underneath. Also all gauges and switches work fine. It has had a repaint in the past couple of years and looks nice for a driver. It does need some work in the interior however(carpet, weatherstripping, door panels). I'm really thrilled with my choice. I'm sure I'll find as yet undiscovered issues with the car as I start digging into it, but I look forward to working on it.
I hope to get a lot of info from this forum in the upcoming months....
Welcome aboard my friend. You will find CF to be very helpful with guys just like you.
Congrats on your C4. C4's offer best value for the buck as you have experienced already. Parts should not be a major problem as parts are avail all the way back to '53. For service, do a SEARCH for your questions and if you can't find the answer, do a post.
19 more good posts will earn you a couple of Stars.
Give a little more on profile such as your location. Maybe someone near you can recommend a Vette worker. Actually, if decent to start with, you should not encounter too much trouble anyway. Had one with 135K and it ran just fine when I sold it. It too had a re-paint. If they've been out of the element, the clearcoat hold up better so consider a cover if there's no garage. Don't park your puter on C4 Discussion. Wander around CF and chime in. Avoid addiction to CF as long as possible.
Finally, post some pics of your first Vette!!!!
One owner since '93 sounds to me.
Welcome to the CF and you will find that there are many gearheads like you and who are willing to help. That C4 would be a great project and you just can't go wrong with a Vette.
