Some of you may remember that my husband, Mike, was seriously ill two years ago. He had acute renal failure and was hospitalized for three weeks followed by an additional three weeks of rehab. While hospitalized it was uncovered that one of his kidneys had died, while the second one was damaged and not functioning properly. We have been able to control the situation with medications and modified his diet to limit his intake of animal proteins. Fortunately, we have been able to keep him well enough to stay off of dialysis, but his one remaining kidney has been slowly deteriorating.
About six months ago we started discussing the prospect of a kidney transplant with his doctors, who all agreed that this would eventually be needed. We began the process of testing to be approved for a transplant, and were quickly notified that I was an extremely good match and could be his donor. We have finally completed all the required testing except for one last procedure which Mike will be having on Thursday. Assuming there are no complications, the transplant surgery has been scheduled for the following week on Thursday, 01 April. The surgery will be held at NY Presbyterian – Columbia (168th Street & Fort Washington Ave in NYC).
Should the need arise, we are appealing to the Northeast Corvette family to help us with transportation to and from the hospital, as Mike will require frequent hospital visits within the first month of the surgery to monitor his kidney function. If anyone is willing and able of helping us with transportation, please send me a PM.
On Aug 18, 2008 I had a Kidney transplant, My daughter donated a kidney and saved my life. I was back to work in 2 weeks unfortunately my daughter took 8 weeks to recover. We are both doing great I have not felt this good in 20 years. My prayers will go out to the 2 of you. Best of Luck if I lived closer I would love to help.

An Irish Prayer May God give you...
For every storm, a rainbow,
For every tear, a smile,
For every care, a promise,
And a blessing in each trial.
For every problem life sends,
A faithful friend to share,
For every sigh, a sweet song,
And an answer for each prayer.
