Posting this here in the NE because it affects all of us who travel these roads and use EZ PASS

Apparently there is a scam going on with pricing

Im unable to post the article, sorry, but please click on the link and read.

I urge all of you to go to the AAA.com/ezpass website and fill out the letter to your local officials.

We are ALL getting fleeced in the pocketbook for no reason

I say NJ should charge NYers double for ezpass lanes because you all stop instead of rolling through at 15 mph

There is no reason why NY folks can't have a second tag for NJ and use it when here and vice versa. Although NJ charges $1 per month for the privelage of having an NJ account!

You just would have to remember to switch tags.

NY tried charging the 1 per month fee too and our reps went after them and made them repeal it.

funny you should say that Ralph because if you really wanted to trace back the need for increased revenues and exorbitant taxing you might very well find "the annointed one" having a role in this. Albeit with many other too but ok.. I will play your game.. its his fault too

When I moved to NJ, I kept my NY issued EZ Pass. Never really even thought about it. Maybe in the back of my mind I was assuming it was just 1 big agency. Apparently not... I'll have to look into changing, I guess.

Like the article says - since most people that use this are residents of that state, there is little backlash to the bureaucrats charging more for out of state users. That's too bad, because it will be used as a stepping stone for other fleecing schemes.

Guess I need to ditch my NJ EZP and get a New York one. Didn't realize I wasn't getting the discount at the bridges. Oh wait. Then I won't get the NJ discounts. Guess I'll have to get both?

This is gonna upset SteveT very badly when people stop at the toll and switch EZ Passes to make sure they get their discount one on the glass

NY started this BS a very long time ago. When I was married, my wife worked for a company in Staten Island. You know, no man's land. Anyway , apparently S.I. is part of NY, and they passed a law that said if one person works in NY, THE ENTIRE INCOME OF THAT FAMILY IS SUBJECT TO NY INCOME TAX. Even though I worked in NJ, they said I had to pay NYS income tax. I was going to refuse to pay it, but my accountant said I had no choice. A-holes. Glad I left NY many years ago.

Interesting. A lot of folks in MA - me included - got EZPass instead of the Massachusetts FastLane because there's a deposit for FastLane and none for EZPass. EZPass is also accepted in NH and now ME. I don't think we pay extra for being non-New Yorkers, although I'm sure that will be next!

Maybe because NY is more safety conscience and therefore require a 5 mph pass through.

Don't be a hater.

All you had to do was file separately ... but then you'd have nothing to take NY to task for.

Don't be a hater.

Filing separately wouldn't have helped. We went through all the scenarios with the accountant.

As for Obama, he did what all the Tea Party cry-baby's wanted : he cut federal spending, so all it did was pass more expenses on to the states.Hey somebody's got to pay up until we throw all these worthless carpetbaggers out of federal ,state, and county offices and get some responsible people in there. The only problem is that you will need to get those in power now to vote to throw themselves out. Like "THAT" might ever happen.

Don't get me wrong here.As each day goes by, I am more and more disgusted with everyone in public office. There is really no distinction between Republican and Democrat. Each side is only operating for their own personal agenda, and to fill their own pockets with cash. That is why nothing gets done, because the stalemate benefits them, not us.They get paid for posturing to the news, and catering to their political base when they know that by being so unbending in their rhetoric, they kill any chance of compromise and positive change. No one wants to give an inch, and we are the ones who continue to get screwed.

Sounds like time to have someone more knowledgable help you with your taxes. my wife and I have lived in NJ had have had one, the other, or both of us working in NY state since 1987 and have never let NY state grab NJ income for taxation purposes. We essentially end up paying close to double state tax on the portion earned in NY, so I am not saying there isn't a rip off out there since there clearly is. But you should not have had to pay any NY state income tax on earnings in NJ if your permanent residence was NJ for the entire taxation year.
