Here's the deal. I have a friend of a friend who is looking at both of these vehicles. She is in her mid fifties, and has sleight back problems. I personally like the Acura TL because of its sportiness and solid ride. I've based that description on my seat time with an Acura TSX, so I could be way off. The Lexus, from what I've read/heard might be the better choice for her due to its smooth suspension and comfort. Have any of you driven either, and if so what were your impressions? Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I had a 2006 TL and traded it for the 07 Type S about 9 months ago, the S is definately stiffer and a little harder to get in/out of due to larger side bolsters on the seats. I have driven the ES as well. I am not a fan of how disconnected the Lexus feels, like driving a video game, the TL (base model) provides waaay more driver feedback. I have owned 4 Acuras and I have had a great experience thus far with thier product. I have not personally owned a Lexus but I know others who have and have been very pleased overall. I would suggest that she take an extended test drive in both cars, I would think that she will most likely like the Lexus since its kind of an easier car to drive with very minimal effort to steer. I would also have to give Lexus the slight edge in terms of overall interior quality..... but they definately lack in terms of exterior styling. If she is looking at used both vehicles have terrific certified used programs.

I mentioned she take an extended test drive in both cars, as well. I personally would choose the TL (Type S), but then again, I'm partial to sportier and more connected vehicle. However, these attributes may not be the best thing for her bad back. And I don't see her going on any spirited drives through the country anytime soon, so the performance values are a loss on her. I don't think there is doubting either car for their reliability merits. As you said, I think she will be leaning more towards the Lexus, based purely on comfort and usability (entry-exit, etc).

That said..I recommend the new Cadillac CTS.
Best car of the three.. IMO
Never thought of that. Thanks for the suggestion!

That's what I like about the TL compared to the ES, but again, for her needs it might not be the best choice.
Thanks for the replies! I'll keep you updated as to which vehicle she ultimately decides on.

From my experience and owning a 06 Acura TL. The car is a great and nice looking car, but it is not exactly comfortable for someone who has back problems. The seats are very hard leather, and the car has a bit stiff suspension. The Lexus drives like one. It is soft ride, soft leather, etc. I would recommend that over the Acura due to that reason.
No it's not. The regular TL is very rough and the ES is much much smoother. Like a caddy.
most guys would pick the tl for themselves but most women would choose the luxury and soft ride of the es. I tlaked my wife into the g35 Infinit sedan but she wanted the Avalon. She still complains about it. Buy what she'd like not what you like
She is leaning towards the Lexus, mainly because of the comfort level and entry-exit ability. I think she will do the deal this weekend. No doubt they are both great cars, but the Lexus fits her needs better. Thanks for all the feedback.
The current G35 sedans get great remarks. Did you look into them?
Infiniti has great performance numbers but when you compare the interior to Acura or Lexus it falls waaaaaay short, lots of cheap plastic crap in the car

I agree, although sometimes a softer seat is not the best thing for a bad back. The suspension is certainly a huge factor, especially if the driver lives in climates that vary considerably. Our Lexus RX400h seats are more bench-like than sport-style seats and I still feal that my C5 seats are superior; not only are they soft, but their pneumatic lumbar pads can be adjusted so that support is provided in all the right places.
I drove an ES350 for a morning when the RX was being serviced. It is like driving on a cloud - silky smooth and super quiet. The seats were good, although I still think the C5's are more comfortable for me. Perhaps a heavier person would prefer the ES350's seats.
