Battery prices have come down a lot. Used to be $1000 per kwh.. Now it's like $150 per kwh. So, $30k for a 200kwh pack

The novelty will wear off quite quickly. It'll no longer be cool when they're all over the road. Elon could literally **** in a box and a bunch of nuthuggers will line up to be the first to buy it.

0-60 in 4.1 but only has a 112mph top speed. So that’s a 16s 1/4?

That's because you found the killing negative is that it won't win every stoplight to stoplight race while not speeding, because you don't go more than 10 mph over the speed limit. On the big positive side for you, you get to stop for warm meals a lot more often.

The 131kwh pack in the lightning is $36k for just the pack. That a real.world, you can buy it price, not a.pulled out of theory number. That's about $275 per kwh, so if we (incorrectly) assume the price per.kwh won't go up as the battery gets larger, that's a 200kwh battery costing around $55k. The 131kwh pack is rated for 320 miles of range in lightning, meaning if we assume the same kwh to range efficiency (which is incorrect because as weight of batteries goes up efficiency goes down), you'd need a 210kwh pack to just eek out past 500 miles of range, best case scenario.

Or you know, you buy a powerboost f150 that's a mild hybrid, has a 30 gallon tank you can fill up in 3-5 minutes, and has a range of well over 650 miles. Oh it's cheaper too. Or you wait for a Ramcharger, that is a series hybrid, as fast as the cyber truck basically, and has a 600+ mile range.

My bet is they limit the top speed due to the tire rating.

That's the price to customer, not the price it costs to make it.. There is a mark up.

correct.. Virtually all pickup trucks have a governor that limits the top speed just below tire rating.

Virtually all vehicles nowadays do this. Trucks just tend to have the lowest speed limits because they also tend to be asked to pull heavy stuff, go off-road, be large, et,... You gotta have a trade off somewhere and on trucks it's speed rating. On more performance oriented stuff you usually don't get the higher top speeds without getting a package that include sportier tires, usually wider so that it's easier to ensure replacement s match the speed rating.

Semantics. None of the EV makers make their own batteries anyway. I doubt Ford is marking them up much, considering that battery replacement costs are done of the like top 5 things that worry people about buying an EV. Either way, it's still well over double your cost estimate.
