Waiting on the sub forum requests for the different tyes of glass

Does Troy, the mods, et. al. plan on keeping this section off of the drop down menu for the time being? A lot of members likely don't visit the index page listing all of the forums. Just curious.

Scott,

This is one of the reasons I pushed so hard for this new section.
I was seeing so much "know-it-all but really didn't know jack" going on in the general forum sections that I believed that having a separate section would tend to be monitored by the pros and more adept members.

That way, bad advice will be jumped on immediately. When 2 experienced people hash out differences in opinions, that's when it really gets interesting and everyone ends up learning a lot.

I will give advice here sometimes and I'm certainly not perfect and don't know everything for sure. If I ever gave advice that wasn't correct, I would want to be jumped on for it.

I am excited that we have this new section and I believe it is already starting out well.

Thanks for your support in getting this thing going.

I agree that it will really help to get this chore done. I think a lot of members might miss this section without it working.
I PM'd Savewave about it yesterday, so he is aware.

Roger, I appreciate your take on this new section and I'm looking forward to learning from you.

I've got experience with aircraft fiberglass repairs and now, my own floor repairs. (Oh, and the drywall in the new house where I added wiring.)

I'm guessing that one area we're all anxious to hear about from a pro is the problem of spider-webbing. Our fourth gen cars and the last year or two of the third gen cars have smc, as you know, and it's been claimed that smc doesn't spider-web. Well....my '90 (and probably others) has it.

We'd love to hear from you.

Thanks,
Bruce

Default Suggestion

If I may suggest placing a column that states weather your post applies to a C1, C2, C3, etc., and also a tab under the community heading, otherwise a great idea

It's been quite a while since we first reported that the Paint/Body Section wasn't showing up in the General dropdown.

Although, I think the new section is a success, I feel like we are not getting the participation in the new forum as well as we would be if the dropdown were working.

It there any way we can get this task expedited?

Thanks,
Roger

I don't have the geek skills to understand the issues, but you may have noted there are a number of sections that aren't included in the drop-down menus and, no, there isn't an easy fix or it would be fixed.

If we had waited until we could get the paint/body section in the drop-down menu, we'd still be without the section.

It's accessible, obviously, on the directory page -- something that doesn't require hacking the software each time we want to make a pull-down menu change.

Where I work, we don't consider a programming task "hacking the software".

Is there or is there not someone with "geek skills" to do the job? Does the forum management have to pay for this kind of programming? Do we need more advertising money or donating members?

Just trying to make this a better place

We all are brother. And through a conserted effort all of us got this section made

I'm in a similar line of work and we know it isn't a huge change. Likely easier than adding the section itself. However being in this line of work sometimes even the simple things just take a while to get to.

Ok Upstate, I'll hush up for now and have a little more patience.
Just felt like he was blowing me off as he didn't address the real issues.

I am enjoying the new section.

Sorry you believe you are being jerked around, Roger. As I said, I don't have any "geek skills" and I'm sticking with that. I was able to figure out how to use the software to set up this new section because of the interest expressed by you and a number of other Forum members.

If you have further complaints and suggestions, we'd be glad to address them according to Forum guidelines:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1049449

I know from time to time the Forum's owner has to hire additional tech help to customize the software to do things it ordinarily wouldn't do. When I hear talk of those customized changes, they often are referred to "hacking" the software. My error may have been in picking up a term I don't understand because I have no training or experience in that area.

I also know there are a number of pending tech support issues on the list right now because it seems customized features set up previously are not compatible with the most recent software upgrade that was done on the Forum.

In my mind, some of those other issues deserve a higher priority than pull-down menus, but the Forum's owner sets the priorities on those issues.

Meanwhile, to avoid the inconvenience of having to go to the main Forum directory to access the new section, perhaps it would help to save the URL for the section in your list of favorites or as a shortcut on your desktop.

Savewave,

Thank you for that explanation. I'm sorry that I popped-off to you a little. It's just that I'm a "get 'er done" kind of person.

It's not an inconvenience thing for myself at all. My issue is that I think the participation would be better if the dropdown were working. My belief is that some members may not be finding the new forum due to the fact that the dropdown exists and they wouldn't know it was incomplete and not think to check for other existing forums through the main directory.

Now that I know that the forum owner sets the priorities, all I can ask you to do is just make him aware that some members feel the dropdown issue is an important one.

I don't know who the forum owner is. Is he a moderator that can be PM'd? If so, should I do that with this important issue? Or is he already quite aware?

Also, now that I know you set-up the new forum. I really thank you for that. I hope you are as pleased as I am on it's success.

Roger
