Paint type for C4

Well, I think I might be getting a guy to paint it. He paints muscle cars and has painted older Vettes.
I was talking to the guy where I take my cars into to get serviced about having my Vette painted by the shop teacher at the tech school. He told me about how he used to go to school there and about some horror storys. He told me about how say a student left there car there to get worked on, and then to get painted. And how the shop teacher took a hammer and put a dent into the car just so the students could pop the dent out. Amongst other things and about a blotchy paint job he got done there years ago.
So, I'm talking with someone he recommended that does good paint jobs.
Though, I'm gonna plan on stripping the paint myself to help keep the cost down. What is a good paint stripper I could use that won't damage the SMC or bumpers? I figure that would be the easiest way to get the paint off.
