I have a baseball size crack on my hood, sanded it down to the smc to get all of the web out.Somebodt left something lay on the coolant tank and shut the hood? is can I just spray some epoxy primer over this area and then use some spot putty or do I have to use smc filler and build up the area again.I know the spot putty won't adhere to the bare smc but should to the primer THANX! (btw it's a 93)

spot putty won't fix a crack, you don't show us the crack so we can only guess to the size of the damage, you will need to grind down the crack and make a valley and fiberglass it back to together, if you don't it will return in time. 69VETT
I did manage to sand out the area down to the smc and removed all of the damage.I was under the impression that you have to use smc compatible materials to go any farther on the repair. The way it looks to me now I should be able to put some high build epoxy primer over the area.As I said in my post the area that was spider webbed was about the size of a baseball, roughly 3 inches in dia.Till I sanded it down to remove all the cracks the area is now about 10 inches dia. I did that so it wouldn't be as noticable a depression.I don't think I have to build up the area much if at all now since I feathered out the area so far.Ther are still just some minor imperfections on the smc that I think will fill in with the primer,I have to get my eye's within 2 inches to see them.I'd like to put about 3 or 4 coats of primer on then wetsand and evaluate the repair, what do you guy's think?
