Hi all, I took a small gouge out of the wheel lip.I'm tring to touch it up.Appox.1/2" long, slight concave depth. I used a marker type touch up pen that contains laquer. My question is ,the clearcoat keeps removing the touchup paint. How long should I wait to put on the clear or should I even bother? Thanks
You may try applying the paint several times...allowing it to dry very well between each application....about a day depending on current temperatures in your area. Then give it a day and then apply your clear. Chances are is that you are not applying enough paint...and the solvent in the clear is softening it up and making it "walk" on you.
Remember...numerous thinner coats dry faster versus one thick coat.
Apply some of your touch up paint on something esle and use it as a test panel...so-to-speak...so when you apply your clear...it will let you know if you are going to have a problem or not. Treat the test panel the same as your car...or it is pointless. i.e. putting the test panel in the sun more than the part of the car is in the sun....or force drying it with a hair dryer when the car is not being force dried.
