Trying to put together a compressor on the cheap $$$ to accommodate a 12.2cfm @ 40psi gun with a working pressure of 30-35 psi.
I have a 5hp 220V Craftsman 20 gal tank 11.8cfm @ 40psi I assume this would not be enough?
I also have a 6hp 30 gal airless with a bad pump rated at 135psi 8.4 cfm @ 40 psi.
If I were to purchase a 5hp pump rated at145 psi 17.9 cfm @ 40 psi and put it with the 5hp 220V motor on the 30 gal tank would this work?
I think you are letting the 'numbers' get in your head...because it seems like you are 'splitting hairs'. Why don't you do a couple of tests with the Craftsman compressor you have currently??? Spray some product and adjust your gun correctly. You might find that when you adjust your gun that you will be able to use what you have now.
Knowing that the 'numbers' are not that far off....and the only issue I may see is that the 20 gallon tank may be a bit too small....thus....causing the compressor to run...then shut off...then run again, etc. THUS...causing the head temp to get HOT.....MEANING I would be more worried about having MOISTURE FREE/DRY air coming out.
Thanks Dub, do you think it would it help to transfer the pump & motor from the 20 to the 30 gallon tank?
??????? I would test it first. that way you have a baseline....because right now...it is all speculative.
AND... after you tested it with paint and it works well. I would then act like I am painting the car and see how many times the compressor kick on and off and if I am getting a lot of moisture due to getting really hot.
