Default qrt panel install!? DUB?

this is mainly for DUB, and i am hoping he is gonna be gentle with me on my screw up! well first off, i bought a rear qrt panel from WV a gorgeous peice! and i have been waiting for 7 months for them to produce a taillight panel. i cant wait any longer. so i just bought a CI panel. DUB, you coached me on the phone on what to do. sanding both side of the bonding area, i installed the tail panel and it turned out great. i used CI bonding adhesive as you recommended. NOW, for my screw up! i trial fit the qrt and got it perfect. sanded the bonding strips wiped with cleaner. BUT I FORGOT TO SAND THE QRT GLUE AREAS! I clamped everything and screwed where it would be hidden. it looked great. well this am when i went out in the shop to remove the clamps and screws. it dawned on me that i forgot to sand. it seams tight and solid?! am i gonna have issues with this seam DUB? thanks for you thoughts....TROY

Well DUB, I gave the qrt a tug and it pulled right off. So I guess I start over again with prep work.

Troy,

I am NOT going to give you any crap.

I am glad that it popped off.

I hate that they have not gotten full production of that taillight panel. It WILL be nice when they get it done due to I know how sweet that quarter panel is. NOBODY but that company makes quarter panels that look like that. And as you know...it can make a difference.

I am glad that it popped right off. Using the CI bonding adhesive..you can grind it off or heat it up and it will soften enough to scrape off.

I can say that I have never bonded on an un-sanded panel. BUT...I have done some really stupid stuff that just shows that we are all human.

thanks DUB, i know! i waited and waited for the tail panel. i think they were getting sick of hearing from me. but any way, i could not believe how easy it pulled loose. very disipointing on my part. the glue pealed off with a little heat then i sanded everything down and cleaned everything up. and now i have glued the panel back in place..so hopefully it sticks properely...thanks troy

I sure it will stick really good this next time. It is amazing on how important proper prep is when doing work like this.

A company that is making the press molded parts using steel dies and an immense press...so they are A IMPECCABLY AWESOME. Nothing comes close to them that I have seen.

I turned Troy onto where to get them...so i will let him tell you about what he has received. I do not want to steal his thunder on this. That way it is being communicated by someone other than myself.

Troy...if you can or will.....Post them a photo of how well tooled the top hood surround is by your wiper grilles. If that does not make people a believer on these parts...I do not know what will.

Thank you Troy and Dub. I recently purchased some NOS quarters for my '67 to replace the crap CI panels from mid 2000's that blistered a couple years ago. The front end blistered only a month after gelcoating so that was replaced with a Sermersheims front end at that time, but the quarters took a few years. Im not looking forward to all that work and repainting.
