Default My LS6 conversion experience

To start off I live In 75-90 degree Hawaii..
My car is a 2004 a4 2.73 coupe..

Bone stock I dynoed 299 rwhp and 309 rwt SAE corrected and smoothed on a Dyno jet...

My bone stock times where 13.5 at 101-103 mph...

I was a very consistent 13.5 or 13.6 90 percent of the time...

In febuary I decided to purchase the LS6 conversion form Summit for 1800 dollars.

I then had it installed and dynoed ( on the same dyno) for 1000 dollars...

The untuned result was 338 rwhp and 332 rwt..

I took my new LS6 to the track and found that the gain was minimal...

My best of roughly 20 to 30 runs ( spread out over a month) was only 13.4 at 104 mph...

Considering I only gained a tenth and a mph for 2800 dollars I was highly dissapointed...

I then invested 400 dollars in a Diablo sport tuner and 125 dollars for a dyno tune on the same dyno jet...

My shift point were raised to 6300 rpms.

My spark was advanced by 5 degrees.

My rev limit was taken to 6500.

My fuel was added by 5% in the 2000-4000 rpm range and 2% in the 4000-7000 range.

The result was 347 rwhp ang 339 rwt SAE corrected and smoothed...

I went back to the track and have now ran 13.1's at 105-107 mph...

I am happy with these results...

4 tenths and 4 mph is a solid gain...

The most notable improvement is my 0-60 mph...

The LS1 would give me no more than 5.0 and usually was a 5.1.

With the LS6 I have aceived many 4.6's

My passport timer from circuit cit is extremely acurate up to the 8th mile and I only except the 0-60 time it shows me when it s numbers and the strips numbers match up to with in a hundreth

That concludes my LS6 experience...Hope I helped some of you with your decision

Oh BTW....

I realize that I could have easily gone with a after market head and cam package that would destroy my set up...

But I just love telling people they got smoked by a stock GM engine equipped with an automatic and 2.73 gears

All I can say is Damn.

Just .......................Damn.

Thats one of the most compelling arguments for the Vararam I have ever seen or heard to date.

The vararam gave me two tenths and two mph....

Awesome for 500 bucks!!!!!!!

It's about half as good as my LS6 conversion was...

But 4 tenths and 4 mph is still pretty good for a stock GM LS6 vrs a stock GM LS1....

Im sure on a 3.15 at or the 3.42 mn6 the results wold be closer to 5 mph and 5 tenths....

The 2.73 just dosent make use of the extra power the way they can..

Im still very happy with the performance of my LS6....

When the best you could do was 0-60 in 5.0 and the 1/4 in 13.5....

And then you back and do 0-60 in 4.6 and the 1/4 in 13.1 it's a pretty good SOTP differance.....

Also kep in mind that the record for the quickest stock Zo6 at my track is only 12.7...

The quickest stock 02 Viper is only 12.6

The quickest stock STI is only 13.6

When you see tese numbers you can see why Im pretty happy with going from 13.5 to 13.1 with the LS6
