MPH takes the driver out of it. My mph was good on the 1/4, but I could never get the Et down. I had a fast car,but with a great driver it would ahve been a quick and fast car. isn't the reason to tune for MPH first, and then work on the ET. Practice is the driver MPH is for the most part the car

Actually better driving will increase MPH. I recommend doing things the other way around. Do the driver mod first and then add HP. Success will come much faster.

I agree! X2

I say mph. Drag racing e.t. has a lot to do with the first 60ft. So yes the car with the lower e.t. is faster in the quarter mile, but the car with the higher mph would probably win in a race that's longer than a quarter mile or a race from a roll. So I say the mph is more important than the e.t. in trying to figure out the faster car.
mike who said anything about roll racing or racing beyond the 1/4....i think the op wants opinions on the quickest/fastest car at the track....besides that those guys are running 140+ in the 1/4...should there be much of a need to run beyond that speed/distance to determine the quicker/faster car?
I think that the car with more MPH is the faster car. Usually cars that have a higher MPH lack a little on the bottom wether it be driver, traction or gearing. But once the car is hooking and in the right rpm's it covers more distance in a shorter amount of time.
But i also think there are to many variables in racing a 1/4 mile to make a valid arguement for each side. Racing time slips is almost as bad as dyno racing.
In the end who ever is their first is the winner hands down. it doesnt matter who traps faster or has a better 60', it's what side those wins lights come on . . .

Yea, but his question does not say anything about drag racing. "Which car gets the title of "Fastest Car" for the record books?"
I have the fastest 6 speed stock longblock corvette at the track. Doesn't mean it is the fastest on a road course, mile run, top speed, etc. 'Fastest car' is useless unless you qualify what it is the fastest at.
If the question is which is the fastest car using drag racing as the benchmark, then ET rules. If you ask the 1 mile racing guys, then yes, there is a need to go beyond the 1/4 mile to determine the fastest. If you use 'fastest accelerating car' then 60' would do it.

Alot of people stray from the topic which is cool and makes for good side discussions. I''m not asking who would be faster if certain cars raced in the 1/4 but who do you think gets the title of fastest according to the timeslip.
It looks like you said both above.

Well like i said i think that the car that has more MPH is actually a faster car. But for the last 60+ years everyone has reconized having a lower ET as the fastest.
I think ET = first to finish, which one would suggest is the quickest but again MPH covers more distance faster which would mean a quicker car.
But going by time slips one car runs a 10.0 @ 130 and another runs 10.10 @ 133 i think the later is a faster car but the 10.0 is the first to finish and is the one who gets the money.

See Dave I'm not the only crazy one.
Robz,I don't think your crazy, just a little confussed. I know one thing reading all of those various opinions is making me dizzy.
Since you specified "at the drag strip" where the entire object is to post the lowest ET and the sole object is to post a faster ET than the guy in the next lane - ET is the answer.
Had you said "at the Bonneville Salt Flats" where the sole object is top speed, the answer would be different.
But going by time slips one car runs a 10.0 @ 130 and another runs 10.10 @ 133 i think the later is a faster car but the 10.0 is the first to finish and is the one who gets the money.
Unless of course the 10.0 car cuts a 2.xx light and the 10.10 car cuts like a .005 light that is.
