I'm going to try to make it again this year – only now I have a small problem. Seems there was a grenade in my motor on Saturday in Old Bridge during the challenge … Oh the carnage

At about 1,000 feet into my pass i saw the display say something about oil pressure and then BANG!
The anouncer was talking about flames coming from underneath the car while I was stopping to pull off the track. Started unbuckling with a little more interist pulling the cage pin - and before I got out I pulled the hood latch and walked away to the back of the car and waited for the fire crew to get there.
Seems the fire went out by itself and was just oil on the headers.
They did a great job not releasing anything into my motor compartment!
Not sure as to the extent yet, I wanted to let the shock sorta wear off before doing anything; I know I threw a (couple) rod (s).
I'm off on Friday so my plan is to start pulling it apart to see what i have. I'm hoping the heads are still usable...once I see where I’m at with it, then I’ll be able to make a better decision where I go from there . . .
How the hell do you do that? Did you over rev the car for a extended period of time? Weak rod bolt left loose? Was your bottom end stock?
Hey Bruce
Yes it was a stock bottom end with over 135K on it. It hasn't been running right all season (I was running the CC @ Old Bridge) and couldn't quite figure out what the problem was but I guess it really doesn't matter at this point anyway.
From underneath the car (its still on the trailer) I can see into the motor and noticed pieces of motor (block) missing. Saw what looked like a lifter up by the head I walked away from it and decided to not do anything for a few days. I’ll have a much better idea of where I am with it by the weekend once I pull some stuff off and can get a better look at it.
It didn't over rev, was actually loosing power ... I didn’t know how much of it was just the bad air we had. Like Tommy said to me when it happened ... it really doesn’t matter what went first - the rod or bearing?
I am probably going to be putting in a used (seasoned) motor and swap out as many of my parts (if the heads are still good) as I can and hopefully make it to MIR. Continuing the corvette challenge this year would be a real cool but … If the heads are trashed, I'd like to go with an el ess tree

Oh that was you? From the pits I heard the announcer mentioning something about a fire.
Sorry to hear it man.
Went to MIR today and spook with Jayson about a rental on Fri. Nov.5 (which is the day before their Import vs Domestic event)
Jayson said MIR is going to offer $100 per car T&T for that day, full prep, open to anyone. He guesstimated 40 cars showing up for this.
So what do you guys think?
Pro & Cons?
Pros
The track should be top notch
If it's real cold, more cars will warm the track.
$100 would be a little cheaper than renting & prepping the track
Both lanes will be open for actual racing
Cons
More cars, more chance of oil downs. (especially when imports are involved)
Others may find the hugging really gay.
Sounds like the track is available for rental anytime during that period, if we want another date.
P.S. It will take a day or so for my replies to show up (I've been a bad 52 yr. old Man)
i would think to many imports and or street cars prior to the sat event an possibly oil downs up kazoo. id opt for another date later in nov and less cars 20 to 30 tops but must be cars with dr's, slicks, etc no street tires.

Thanks for calling.
I'll plan to go to that but you should set one up for early December.
I think Nov 5th before the import race will be fine. Just like last year, there were several cars there, but it didnt affect us at all. Even if they oil down the track, there are only going to be 40-50 cars, so clean-up wont ruin the event.
Even if we are talking 1-2 oil downs, they will most likely have full staff there preparing for the event that weekend. They have very quick clean up crews. Plus the hondas just break axles no clean up necessary.
I think Nov 5 would still be a good day figuring as last year was no issue and very few other cars running.
I am hoping to be there for the import v domestic race.
Robz you plan to race in that? They should have 2010 rules up in mid July.
Jay I bet we can get Harris to come down too?

If I have a cage by then.

I can't make it for the following reasons:
1)I'll be out of the country
2)My car is broke
3)I have no ***** but talk alot of trash on the forums
4)My race gas tune is Fubared!
5)I'm getting married that day
6)I'm washing my hair
7)Its to far for me from FL. Cause my Punanie hurts to much
8)My navi only reads kilometers and North/South are mixed up
9)My parts didnt make it in time
10)And the truth I cant get off work most likely for a weekday
