Default Problems at track

Hi guys looking for a little help / advise.
I went to atco the last two sundays with my 01 z with bolt-ons,
headers, cai, drag radials and a MGW shifter.

I made seven passes, three last sunday and four today, all three last
week the car refused 2nd gear and or third, always had to double
clutch it.

Same today except the first run right after a 45 min ride I ran a 12.1
at 118mph.

I let it cool down and the rest of the day it acted up again.
I did the ranger fluid change after last week, fluid looked good.

After the four passes today the fluid was black.
Am I doing something wrong or is something wrong with trans.
or clutch?

The car has 10,000 miles on it.
Thanks for the help in advance.

Sounds like you're glazing the clutch on the launch and it doesn't fully engage for the shifts. Might be time for a new clutch. Can you completely bleed your system?

I agree maintaining fresh fluid is key, but it sounds like you should be saving for a new clutch if you are going to continue to race it or plan on adding more power. As with bolt-ons the stock clutch is really at it's limits especially when adding a sticky tire into the equation.

It seems like I should be looking at getting a new clutch.
Any suggestions? Do any of you guys use a scatter shield?

I drive the car only on the weekends and have been trying
to get to the track every other week.

I'm planning on a H/C and gears this fall.

Thanks

Default Messy!

I'd try the least expensive first.
Drop the exhaust from the collectors to cat back.
Let the cat back stay. Zip tie them up @ the bolt flanges as to not cause undue stress at the hangers at the very rear.
Pull the tunnel plate.
Have a helper in the cabin keep presure on the clutch pedal while your under the car, cracking the bleeder.
All that black gunk resides in the slave. Thats exactly where your doing the bleed at.
Make sure to keep the clutch resevoir 3/4 full. No need to have the cap on.
Your only going to have to keep the bleeder open untill the c/pedal
goes to the floor.
Do this process several times untill the fluid running down all over you is clear. Oh and have your helper pump the pedal till it's firm each time before you open the bleeder.
Have fun & cost is only =time/fluid.
Have fun!
