I run an open manifold rn. It was actually my buddy's doing who wanted to give me a "little surprise". Honestly it's not bad. I'ts my weekend car and i've probably put close to 1000 miles on it open like it is. The drone can get bad after a long drive (50 miles or so) but for short joy rides I prefer it. The smell is bad when idling, i always change the ac to inside the cabin if im at a stand still- without the ac on I dont smell it at all, when im driving over 5mph I dont smell it either. But even being in California where the law hates cars ive never been pulled over for it- even with illegal tint all the way around 
. However, i WAS pulled over with it open once. I was doing donuts in the rain, turns out some people (not even sure how far away they were) heard me (no surprise there) and they called the cops on me. All he had to do was flash his lights, i stopped immediately, the guy looked at me and all he said was, "leave now". I've never been more thankful in my life. Probably the nicest cop ever- but even so with "reckless" driving, illegal tint, and obviously illegal exhaust- they apparently didnt mind.
I recommend it.
