Mind sharing the details on where and when you shot the picture? I shot some similar ones at Ruaha National Park and it made me wonder if it was the same lion famliy.

Sorry. That slide is probably 30 years old. I scanned them several years ago and lost a lot of continuity. I was over there three times but did not visit Ruaha.
If I had to guess I would say probably Masai Mara.

Nice pictures. The lioness with triplets I photographed in September was still nursing and had her cubs situated in a similar location where there were nearby think bushes to hide the cubs from hyenas.
These were shot in Florida when we visited our grandkids last December. When I showed my family in Nebraska they about crapped when they saw how close he was. I was a bit scared myself, I won't lie....lol. How close is to close?

Pete2K Z28 -- You've got a classic camera and two all-time great Nikon lenses there. Are you still using the D300? Those are some really good shots. I have the AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4.0G ED VR II and the 300mm f/2.8G lens. I find the 300mm with the TC 1.4 an easier combo to use for shooting birds in flight, which puts me at 420mm f/4. I shoot with a D800 or D810. I might move up to the D850, I tend to wait until Nikon announces the next generation before I buy the current gen.

Thanks! The D-300 is long gone. I switched to a D3, now a D810 but I have not been nearly as active in the past few years. the 500 at the tine was a manual focus lens if you can believe that! I do have a 500 f/4 VR now. I've thought about the 300 2.8 + 1.4. At the moment I'm planning a long overdue trip to Yellowstone and considering a Sigma 300-800 APO for slower moving wildlife, like bears, bison, etc.
I agree on staying a generation behind; I think I picked up my 810 for $1,100 with less than 5k exposures. The Z6's are starting to look good for video...
