I think that is something that will distinguish this C7 Z06 from the C6.......no reason to believe that the C7 Z 06 won't have the removable roof panel, since it will have the same frame as the base C7. Not sure I'd purchase a C7 Z without this feature.........
Unless they take more weight out of the frame I'm sure it will have a removable roof. I doubt they're willing to put the money into the frame to take the weight out. The frame is good enough as is. I sure hope it will have a removable roof. It, and the seats lol, were the only changes I used to want to my C6Z06.
C7 vert with the top down is 20% stiffer than the C6 ZR1/Z06 with the roof panel bolted in place. Zero reason to have a fixed roof with the C7 chassis. Only reason they did it on the C6 was as a band-aid to get the needed torsional rigidity on the aluminum frame designed within existing C6 constraints.
I could see the C7 Z having a targa over the automatic trans....but it really wouldn't make difference to me as I'd probably never take the roof off...although the C7 with the targa roof removed looks 1000x better than a C6 with no roof panel.
One reason - to have a chassis that is stiffer than the base car.
Another is avoiding the creaking, squeaking, and leaking of a Targa roof.
If the Z06 has a Targa roof, I wouldn't pay as much for the car. It's lost value.

Lots of Z06 purists will feel this way.....it would be a shame for GM to ruin such a moniker as the Z06. Part of what makes a Z06 is excluding it from luxuries such as a removable top and slushbox trans.
Because the chassis is finally stiff enough to allow. In previous iterations it was not possible. But what it will come down to this time, is that there are more who will want the targa roof than those who will not want the targa roof.
I'll also go a step further and say that you see a C7Z06 version in convertible form. Sales of the 427 Vert proved there is a market for a higher performance convertible, should they decide to offer it.
