Just to let you know that if you plan on not using those aluminum wheels...put them up for sale because later year model Corvette owners would LOVE to have them.
I always wanted a Corvette for as long as I could remember. Whenever I'd see one in a parking lot I'd always find myself wondering over that way just to check it out. However I never had the extra money to get one, same reasons as most people, and they always seemed just out of reach. After I retired from the military, my wife (of all people) said "Get a Corvette if that's what you want". So I bought this 1968 convertible, it's a basket case, the frame and birdcage is in great shape, it's not numbers matching, has the wrong hood and the wiper door assembly is gone, ugly rims, the interior needs help and of course paint, but I love working on cars and I'm excited to get started on it. My immediate goal is to get it on the road and start enjoying the car My hope is my son and daughter will get involved fixing it up and the car will be something our family can enjoy for years to come.
Congrats on the car, that is great. Also congrats on the retirement. I retired from the army 10 years ago. Enjoy the car and retirement.
Welcome as well. You have a good start their I bought a 75 cheap that had not ran almost 20 years. I bought a set of those wheels cheap looked similar
spent a day sanding & polishing with a drill. They look great today
Looks like you have a great shop to work in, and a great car to work on. Please check the date on those tires, bad things have happened to these cars when tires blow out.

I won't be running these tires, I only have three that match and they are weather checked. Thanks for looking out for me and please keep the good advice coming!
If you do decide to sell the rims I would be interested for my 79, I like the rims it has now but would like to have a set of originals also, good luck!
Welcome to the forum with your nice looking 68 convertible. Your car is an early one, due to having the first outside door mirror location, near the windshield pillar. This was later moved rear ward on all C-3 Corvettes. Almost every part on a 68 is different than a 69. I know first hand, after having my 68 coupe for almost 44 years now.
The whole interior is different, in a nice way. Save any part that you remove from your car!
As stated, the reproduction switches are terrible. You can rebuild most of them. Original 68 ignition switch housings have a built in light to illuminate the key slot at night. None of the reproduction switches have this feature. Lou.
agree with others, that looks like a pretty short-term project. if they are mostly there, not rusted, and look good at 20 ft., that's more than half the battle!
also those rims, while not even close to correct for a '68, are valuable and many of us with plastic nosed vettes would love a set. they would be an easy trade for the stock rally's from many people, myself included!
