Default Used GM navigation

I purchased a used navigation unit for a 2005 C6, when I installed it myself, it states theft locked enabled. I was told I must bring it to the Chevy dealership to get it unlocked... Is this true,? Also my 2005 came with a plug in antenna cable.... On my nav unit (supposedly from an 05). There's no place to plug that into..... So I'm wondering how I'll get my am fm stations? Thanks in advance for any advice you have. (Richard)

Yes, the dealer needs to 'unlock' it, pair it to that vehicle.
That's all I can help you with.

Looking at the back of the radio the antenna plugs into the round hole on the lower right side.

This is the procedure for getting your radio unlocked.

Connect tech 2 to car and put the car into acc mode.
At the main screen, select diagnostics

At systems selection menu screen, select body

At the vin indent screen select
Appropriate model
Appropriate air conditioning
Nav radio

At the body screen, select nav radio

At the radio screen, select special functions

At the special functions screen, select vin relearn

At the vin relearn screen, the scan tool will display, do you want to clear the radio theft information?

To begin clearing, press the soft touch key on the top right of the scan tool. The Tech 2 will display clearing radio theft in progress.

Once done, press exit on the tech 2 and cycle the ignition.

It's done and the Nav unit will now marry to your car

All of the above is correct. But it does not have to be a Chevy dealership ... anybody with a Tech2 tool. If you do business with the mechanic, he probably will not charge you. If a dealer is honest, he won't charge you more than half-an-hour. Some dealers charge a lot more for no good reason. (the entire process takes five minutes).

If your car did not already have the speed sensor wire in the radio wire loom, you will also need to install one. Do a search for Ray Kawal. He has, in my opinion, the best instructions for installing a factory Nav radio in a non Nav equipped car. He also sells all the possible wires and connectors you could possibly need. I used his instructions and wire kit to do the install of the Nav radio in my car. As others have said, you can take it to a dealer to get it unlocked, but be aware that at least some dealers will charge a minimum of 1 hour labor to do the job even though it takes only 5 minutes. The dealer I went to, incidentally the same dealer where I bought the car, charged me 1 hour, $129.

unlock question , say you just want to unlock a nav unit because you want to sell the unit. if I go through the unlock procedure but do not cycle the ignition switch and just unplug the unit, will the unit be unlocked , vin cleared?

I can't answer your question, but I will say that most of the time it becomes the buyer's responsibility to get the unit unlocked.

You got my message in the other post right ... ?

If you go thru the vin relearn BEFORE you remove from your car and do not restart the car , then YES , the unit will marry to the VIN of the next car it is in upon the first ignition cycle

All factory new units are shipped with no vin and marry the first VECH they are installed in ...
