Default Angle of steering column on 68

I have recently just reinstalled the steering column in my 68. I had all the brackets out so I could remove the brake/clutch pedal box for refurbishment. I reinstalled the box and brackets per the AIM and installed the LH lower dash. Then I installed the steering column and centered it in the opening in the dash and finally tightened the bolts. Now when I look at the wheel it is canted towards the right more than I recall before disassembly. It points more towards the top right corner of the seat rather than towards the middle of the seat. I think I may have enough room to move it slightly back to the left but certainly not straight. But before I do more upside down Corvette Yoga could someone please share a picture or two showing the angle of their steering wheel? I'm sure Alan has 5 or 6 good shots already. Thanks.

Hi f,
I see cars with the steering column angled slightly up and slightly to the right. I don't know how typical this might be.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan. I drove it before I noticed the angle and did not feel that it was unusual or different. I noticed it when i walked by the passenger door and looked across the face of the steering wheel. I have driven it since than and again it feels just like it always did and from the rear window looks exactly like yours.

If anyone has a pic looking across the face of the steering wheel I would like to see it. Thanks

Mine was angled! Been a while but I found that is by design.

Thanks, I went over to a buddy's house today and looked at his. He said he had never had the brackets out, just dropped the column. His was just like mine. He had never noticed that his was angled either.

The C3 steering column is angled to the right a bit. Not that noticeable, until you know about it. Then, you can't help thinking about it.

Just think how much harder to get in the car it would be if it was to the left more. Maybe they knew what they were doing. Or maybe so the passenger can steer if you pass out while driving.

Exactly. It is very noticeable after you discover it. I think I'm leaving it alone.

The whole cockpit was designed with style and instrumentation at the forefront. Had to fit the driver in 'after the fact', I guess....
