Default Pre cut sound deadener

Looking for advice on what everyone has used for sound deadening and cabin heat control.
I know lots of folks use the stuff from Lowe’s, but I want it pre cut.
I called Dynamat today and they told me their pre cut stuff is $300 and it’s only 1/16” thick.
Is their product that much more superior that they can not only charge that much but also make it so thin?
After the first stuff is laid down, you then place another layer of closed cell foam on top.

What are most of you using in the pre cut department for sound deadener and heat control for you cars?

Joe,
I’ve been looking at this for my car…it’s called Flatline Barriers. Sold on fleabay. Pre cut just under $200.

I'm going to throw this out there because of the above post.
I purchased flatline barrier insulation.
Absolutely, and I mean ABSOLUTELY the Biggest rip off you can spend your money on for a Corvette! I personally insisted on a refund. Since my experience, another came on this forum to complain, then another!
My advice, do NOT purchase pre cut sound insulation from any company. Buy a cheap pair of scissors.

I used Reflectrix from Lowes, and Hushmat from Amazon. Neither was pre-cut of course. You don't need 100% coverage with the Hushmat, it works by not only dampening, but also by changing the resonant frequency of large panels.

If you want pre-cut stuff, hire a local teenager to cut it for you.

For actual heat control, the best things you can do are:
Get your timing really nailed down (follow @lars' instructions)
Delete the heater core and plug the two ports (intake and water pump)
Make sure the horse collar is above your transmission bellhousing
Block holes/gaps in your firewall
Add (sturdy) insulation between the floor and exhaust

Dynamat works very well in eliminating a lot of road. noise and heat coming from underneath.

So what was your concern with this product? Poor quality, poor fitment ? I understand you were unhappy, but exactly why? I personally haven’t purchased this myself, but I know others that have and seem happy. Just looking for informed answers here.
Thanks, Chris

I thought the stuff I got from B-Quiet in Canada was a good value for the money. You will be cutting it yourself though.

absolutely no instructions. Extremely poor fit, very poor coverage. Very thin material. Basically, just garbage from start to finish. I have seen others complaining. Never heard anyone who was happy. I purchased through Zip Corvette. I had put up a negative review. Zip Corvette quickly removed my review.
They lost my business.

I put the Dynamat in my 78. On the floors, along the back walls and inside the doors. Not precut but it wasn't that difficult. And as stated above, you do not need to cover every inch. When I got my C6 it had noise problem also so I got a cheaper version of Dynamat, Fatmat and it worked great also. You could actually hear the difference ( my WIFE actually noticed it).

Hi Joe, I used Dynamat in Nova and that car had 3 inch chambered exhaust and was loud and the Dynamat worked great even though it appears thin on handling. My recommendation is that if you buy this or some other version what I did was take some semi heavy paper from Home Depot or Lowes and trace out each area and then cut the pattern out yourself. It is easy to cut with a blade, scissors are a bit harder because of the adhesive but the stuff works and it sticks. I used the recommended rollers to smooth and it went fast and easy.

I used Dynamat in my 81 , floors from firewall right up to the rear compartments , a few pieces in the rear compartments , I did not cover the rear wheel wells or under the center console or full doors just a few squares, the improvement keeping heat out and lowering noise are pretty decent but I am planning a do over to cover everything, on my 67 Chevelle I covered just about every square inch , full doors , full firewall, full floors ,fully behind the rear seat , roof , quarter skins , now the difference between covering everything is huge I know people say you don't need to cover everything you don't but if you want the best result cover everything, I probably spent 750ish on dynamite it was well worth it , driving down the road you roll up the windows you can barely hear the exaust never mind how great the music sounds now. No hot floors either.

In my 71 I used Dyna Mat like stuff from DEI. Yes you have to cut to fit but its not difficult to cut. I used a box knife. I use the Dyna Mat like stuff as the first layer. Then again from DEI foil on both sides with about 3/8" of jute between the foil. Glue that to the first layer. Then on the 71 from the under side of the car I used from DEI it's a waffle foil with sticky fiberglass insulation.

Back in the day- early 90's- I was a manufacture's rep for Dynamat.

What a great group to work for- they cared about the quality- and make not only the best but the only product that really worked.

Of course copycats came around...

I had dealers of mine not just doing their own cars- but hundreds of cars a year with Dynamat. Of course they tried the "cheaper' stuff being offered. But had issues- squeaking when the weather got cold- - releasing after the car sat in the sun during summer- and it just was not as effective.

The product requires a bit of labor- why throw all the time you spent on a lesser product just to save a few bucks?

I wasn't worried about sound deadening on my car- as I have sidepipes and it's a convertible.
Just was concerned about heat- used adhesive heat shielding ( heat shield products ) outside the passenger cabin. As the space shuttle doesn't put the heat shields on the inside!
Very happy with how it turned out

Lizard Skin also makes a spray in noise and heat damper. I've never used it but I've heard good things about it.

You are correct in that it is inferior compared to other stuff IF weight is a factor determining quality.
I could have sworn I had ordered some sort of sound deadener a couple of years ago but could never locate it amongst all my accumulated stuff.
Sounds ridiculous, but I have 5 project corvettes.
This week end I found the stuff and it was the Flat line stuff.
Prior to that I had ordered some Amazon stuff called “Siles” which is a butyl based product that isn’t precut.
The stuff weighed a ton as opposed to the other stuff from Flat line.
Again, if weight of the product is what determines quality, then the Siles stuff is much heavier than the flat line

I can't give results on sound (it's a convertible) but I had excellent results on heat control using Doorgunner's method of using home depot foil covered insulation. It is all about controlling IR and this product puts you in the shade from that great big heat lamp under your hood. Like suggested above, I hired a kid to cut it and put it down with spray adhesive and foil tape. It worked so well I put it in two other cars after the Vette.

I used multiple layers. I used kilamat .050 butyl sound deadener with foil top. THen added full floor covering from a company that sells the precut double foil bubble stuff. Then I added a layer of precut jute foil backed I got on clearance from topflight, then carpet. Underside of the car is mostly foil backed fiberglass adhesive int he tunnel and bay up tot he back of the intake. I've also started adding DEI ATAK liquid roll on, on the underside (its suppose to be used on interior) in the entire back underside area when I did a new rear end. Its hard to put stuff around the rear inner wheel wells (inside) with the butyl and other stuff. Once it gets warm enough I'm planning to roll on the ATAK stuff in that area. I've taken drives in this car in the HOT summer 90+*F for 2hrs and my legs don't even get warm. I did not sound deaden the doors yet.

I've had really good luck with Siless 3 in 1 from amazon in my firebird which made a huge difference for heat and sound. That stuff combines Butyl, sound and heat foam, and foil so basically 4 layers and its like 1/4" thick. My brother did Lizard skin spray in on his 68 and says it works really good but its messy. If I were to do it again I would do Roll in ATAK or lizard and then a 3 in 1 and call it good.
