Found a pretty good deal on a 89 vert. Current owner has redone the interior completely. He has a new top, but it isn't installed. He says it looks like it's tricky and doesn't want to mess it up. So my question is how hard is this to do? I feel I'm very competent mechanically, but not so much on the interior type of stuff. Right now there is no top on the car at all.
Getting the old one off is half the battle. It took me about 12 hours to remove the old one(including complete removal of all the old glue residue) and just as long to put the new one on. I scored a video install VHS which has been floating around the forum for years which walked me through it.
I just did mine in July.
It wasn't that tough to do, you just have to take your time, follow the instructions and be careful not to get glue where you don't want it.
I got some instructions from a forum member that helped a lot. He said they were notes that he transcribed from a poor quality video he had.
It could have been the video chucks88 said is floating around.
The top also came with instructions so between the two sets of instructions things went pretty smoothly.
PM me your email address and i can send you the instructions.
I think I've sent them to over 20 people so far.
You guys have been very helpful, received instructions from 87 rag, and I will PM chucks88 if I get it. I should know early next week as owner is out of town for the weekend. He wants 5700 for it, but it's been sitting for a year and a half and he says it needs a tune up (easy). Also said radio doesn't work, but dome lights won't go off (?) and needs tires soon. I'll let you know if I get it or not. Thanks again. Does it sound like a good deal to you guys?

Maroon/w black interior. All carpeting, seat covers are new. it has dual standard power seats, and Bose. But none of the perf. options. But I figure for that price if the rest of the car checks out I can add my own performance.
Hi. I am new to all this so I hope you don't think I am rude. I got a new top for my 89 Christmas of 06. My husband has no clue how to put it on that's why it' still not on. So anyway... he has worked in body shops before and is good at stuff like that so if we just had some sort of instructions or the vhs you were talking about I would be glad to pay you.. I very much appreciate it

How can I say no to a damsel in dis dress........I mean distress
E-mail me your address and I'll get it out to you.......and I don't want your money
I would never do that and would be very happy to pass it along to someone else anytime.
Someone should convert it to digital and post it on the net somewhere like youtube or if it can't be posted publicly, at least we would be able to pass it around electronically or as a DVD.

Maybe that is what I am supposed to do with it to carry on
I will see what I can do when I get it. Good Plan!
I have done two tops, they are not that bad. I had an article that I used from a Corvette mag to guide me on the first one. Look at how it come apart, it is nt very complicated. Just take your time. The hardest part for me was getting the back part to sit on the deck lid and not curl up. I am going to do my 92 in the next year or so. You can do it.
Shawn
Thanks for the support. Everyone here has made me feel better about getting this thing done. I have only been on here a few days and I already feel like part of the family.
I have the ability to burn it on a DVD and had been thinking of converting it for a couple months now......seems like just as good as any. Give me a couple days to get the chance to do it.
