Yes the car is off the lift, yes that picture was before the nightmare started. It was almost dark when it came off the lift, that's when it got real interesting, I'm sure Rob will fill all in on details. Yes we finally got the blue Big block (Say that three times fast) started. P.S. it only took 3 trips to Autozone, don't know how many showers it will take to get all the metal shavings out of my hair though.
It's 11:54pm and I'm finally in the house. I went on a short drive with mike and steve. A old chevy Malibu (70s) pulled up next to me and spun this wheels at the traffic light... Good thing there wasn't a cop around.

Next weekend is round two for a few a people.
I just want to say thanks to Rob and to all of you for a true learning experience and alot of fun!!! (problems and all!)
Ill be back next weekend!
Update on the manifold/carb - no leaks!
The throttle response is excellent and it pulls off the line great, but if you throttle it too much, it bogs so I wont know the real power until I resolve that.
I think its one of 2 things:
1. The filter lid is too close to the primaries - I will try to use a solid lid tomorrow and see if that helps
2. The carb needs to be setup to account for the choke flap removal (LARS in May)
If neither of those 2 things fix it, then I may be swapping to an L36 manifold, which is alot of $$ but I know it will work - at least Ill be a pro for that one - and I even have a blowtorch!

Sounds great. But I think they were a little to low again. I think it would be best if we traded my Z06 TIs or your Corsas!!
Thanks again Rob for offering your place and help. See ya next weekend.
Mike what did you have to do to get it started? Let me know if you want me to help with manifold #2!!!!!!
You may just need a timing adjustment to fix your bogging problem.
Wish I could be with you guys next weekend. It was fun meeting all of you and hope to do it again real soon!!!!!!!!
Please don't hesitate is anyone needs a hand anytime!!!
Are you guys going to caravan to Skyline if ya go?
Glynn
Glynn - it was the coil wiring issue
Dan found that the fabric yellow wire and the other black one were hot and when we moved them to the (+), she fired right up!
If I cant fix the bogging issue today or next weekend, Im comin over the weekend after!!! Thanks for all of your help yesterday!
I probably wont make skyline b/c my wife could go into labor at any point by then..

With the carb, if you dump the secondaries at too low rpm it will really bog. If it's a vacuum secondary it could be off with the manifold change, too little vacuum or more vacuum dumping the secondary too early. Now, without taking a vacuum reading before the manifold change, how would you know now what is the right reading?
Look at that picture of the car with the carb off. See how big the secondaries are compared to the primaries? If they tip in too soon it's nothing but bog. Back when I put a speed shop mechanical secondary tweak on my 68 GTO. If I didn't get it right on launch it really bogged.

Yes you definetly need to adjust the timing. Marking the rotor and distributor, is just so the timing gets close enough to start and run. You then need to make timing adjustments P.S. now that the car is running I'll give you 15.00 cash for it.
