Damn slow old people on 441

Each time I head out to Eustis from Orlando, as SOON as I get on 441 (especially during old people season (winter)), i kid you not, I have at LEAST 2-3 near misses to AND from there.

and why? It's because slow moving people mozying over in the inside lane when I am at speed (doing 5ish over at most). They are all doing 10-15 UNDER.

People pulling smack out in front of you, crossing the outside lane, to the inside lane and not even blinking as I hit the brakes and swerve to avoid them. As I pass, they are either on their damn cell phones or just staring off into space, not even caring about the accident they almost caused.

so yeah... to those that think speeding causes accidents? wake up, thats the LEAST thing that causes accidents.

I don't know why they need to ban radar detectors? They got bears in the air around here and it is working well...Radar detectors can't help with the airborne ones.

Speed is dangerous but I'll take my chances. Get the hell out of my way.
I agree that people do not use lanes properly. In Italy, they drive faster and on narrower, more congested roads- but they have fewer accidents. Speed is not the problem. The public has been miseducated and we have been rocked to sleep by the insurance companies and DOT. If we are more courteous and diligent in our lane use, the DOT could save $$$millions on road construction. The insurance would save $$$millions thus lowering our premiums. But most importantly, lives would be saved.

It's great that we can express our views on this Forum in opposition to the propossed legislation for the ban of radar detectors in Florida but it would also be beneficial if we took the time to write our State Senators and voice our oppinion.

I have written to a couple already and hope that you check out the addresses as referenced by the originator of this thread (rhshinn) and let them know how you stand on this ridiculous propossed legislation.

I'm old I can't look in the sky and watch the road at the same time. Maybe 20 years ago but now you don't have a clear lane to sail in..They are all full and usually the inside is going slower than the outside..

Default Taking it up with Tallahassee

I am going to Tallahassee on Monday & Tuesday (3/19 & 20) to lobby against this bill. I personally have a detector that also advises me of approaching emergency vehicles. Whenever a Road Ranger is stopped to help a disabled motorist I get a visual and audible warning well before I can actually see the RR Truck. Same warning comes on when EMS or FD are approaching. I have found these warnings very helpful.

The way cops hide around here it is usually to late for me to react to them checking radar; even with a "Pop" sensitive RD.

The only positive thing I see in the language of the bill is "Enforcement of this section by state or local law enforcement agencies must be accomplished only as a secondary action when a driver of a motor vehicle has been detained for a suspected violation..."

The full bill text can be found at http://www.myfloridahouse.gov/Sectio...8&Session=2007

If you are a FL residnet and cannot get to Tallahassee then follow the advice of StevieK and write a letter to your Rep's. Please note, all of the Rep's will tell you that for your letter to be considered a legitmate letter it must be hand written. The Rep's are flooded with electronically produced form letters so they generally go unread; hand written letters are given greater consideration as possibly being a real letter from a VOTER!!!

And for my last rant for today on government in FL; with all the debate on property tax and property insurance reform in FL lets push our rep's to focus on the things that really affect virtually all the voters in FL as opposed to just those who actually have hte extra cash to buy a radar detector.
