If I get this job, the Vette gets replaced as the daily driver and will be primed for more racing (had to stop racing when I changed jobs and had to use it as the DD).

BTW - where is VIR?

Don't forget Richmond Dragway and Virginia Motorsports Park for some straight line fun.

You might also consider Chester. It is at the intersection of I85 and I95 just south of Richmond and you can shoot down 460 to get to Va Beach, where I live, and miss the two tunnels that get backed up every weekend during the summer season. I have never lived there but I dated a girl that did and it seemed like a nice area. Good luck!!

Charlie, If your looking in the Richmond area (where I live) and need some MLS home info sent to you, let me know. My wife's a realtor and would be more than happy to send you all sorts of houses around here.

I'll keep you posted. With my condo in NJ I just bought trying to decide what to do with that and whether to rent initially or buy. Thanks for the offer.

BTW, if anyone knows any brokers/financial planners, let me know...need to start networking. Hey I can at least promise a free meal or beer on me....or actually the company.

Will do. Prefer road racing, but I always hit up Atco up here for a quick and convenient fix, so I'm sure you'll see me at the local 1/4s.

VIR is an easy 2 hour, 15 minute drive from Richmond's west end. It is a tremendous facility with a seemingly endless array of events from which to choose. It also offers reasonably priced memberships which make member driving days available. See www.virclub.com. I am considering a C6 Z06 as a dedicated VIR track car.

I live in eastern Chesterfield County, Enon be be specific. This area is starting to grow houses and people, but not overcrowded as it is closer to Richmond. Hanover County, north of Richmond or western Chesterfield offer open areas and good access to the interstates.
Welcome to VA and don't worry there are many 'yankees' already here. Just come down as a northerner and not as a yankee, trade-in 'yusguys' for y'all and you'll be fine.

My HO:

Richmond was my 1st thought but Charlottesville is more centrally located for your situation. Midlothian or Mechanicsville are nice Richmond suburbs. From Richmond its 90 Min to VA Bch, 90 Min to DC, 30 Min to Busch Gardens Williamsburg, and 20 min to Kings Dominion near Ashland. It’s pretty flat in Richmond.

Charlottesville is in the Piedmont area, hilly and has more snow than Richmond. UVA is there and has all the amenities of a major University town. Beautiful there.

I used to live in the city of richmond and I moved to Manassas va. It takes about an hour to drive up 95 and get to the Centreville/Manassas/herndon areas....

Charlie,
I'm a two year Virginia transplant from CT, I love it here! Another area to check out is the Staunton/Waynesboro area. From Staunton you are an hours drive from West Virginia. I bought a house 30 miles west of Staunton in Augusta county. I paid $6500 a year tax on 2400 sq ft colonial home in CT, here $1100 for a 3300 sq ft 3 year old custom farmhouse on 12 acres of level pasture with stunning mountain views in 3 directions! Cost of admission: $350,000. !!! BTW, car insurance on my '04 C-5 is a whopping $525. a YEAR!!!! big difference from $1800. in CT! You do not even have an idea of how good a deal you have waiting for you. My suggestion is the Waynesboro/Staunton area, it's alot less expensive than Richmond/Charlottesville, and very light traffic, and easy access to I-81 and I-64, and some incredible mountain roads for those "Corvette Sundays" as my wife and I call them.

John

Update: I was verbally offerred the job. Going to dinner tonight with the new boss to talk specifics (hope I get out in time to run down and catch the Eagles - how dare he schedule a meeting on a home Monday Night Fottball Game )

Actually, with my sister at UVA Law that may be a good place to transition. I will be giving the area a more serious search now so if y'all (already practicing ) want to keep throwing out recommendations around Richmond/Charlottesville, I'm all .
