I paid $6500 a year tax on 2400 sq ft colonial home in CT, here $1100 for a 3300 sq ft 3 year old custom farmhouse on 12 acres of level pasture with stunning mountain views in 3 directions! Cost of admission: $350,000. !!! BTW, car insurance on my '04 C-5 is a whopping $525. a YEAR!!!! big difference from $1800. in CT! You do not even have an idea of how good a deal you have waiting for you. My suggestion is the Waynesboro/Staunton area, it's alot less expensive than Richmond/Charlottesville, and very light traffic, and easy access to I-81 and I-64, and some incredible mountain roads for those "Corvette Sundays" as my wife and I call them.

Thanks John - Gret info. I'll add Waynesboro/Staunton to my search.

Everyone I talked to says I'll love it there. Like I said before, with mountains, ocean and VIR all driveable distances, my 3 favorite hobbies are taken care of. I'll assume that they also have beer and woman there as well.

It sounds like things are progressing well for you.

Maybe you can be down this way in time to join us October 20 for the Skyline Drive Cruise. This one the best attended and most scenic events of the year in this area.

Sounds like fun. Let me see how things progress. I'll definitely be in for cruises.

Anyone heading up to Kerbeck's Toy 4 Tots? I'll definitely be attending that and hanging with the ECS guys in AC that evening.

Always late to the party but let me throw my $.02 in for Richmond. First of all as a side note, yes you can get Yuengling here, in fact I recently found out there used to be a Yuengling brewery here in Richmond in the 1860's. I live in Mechanicsville in Hanover County, on the Northeast side of Richmond. The average new house price here the last I saw was 280K. I honestly can't think of a spot in Hanover I wouldn't go to at night. Crime is almost non existant. Also if you are looking for a little land, you can go a little further out in Hanover. I have 2 friends that live in subdivided 10 acre lot subdivisions. Traffiic is also a non issue, especially if you compare it to Jersey. I think I'm right in saying Hanover county has the lowest property tax rate of any metro Richmond county. Our schools are also excellent. I'm 15 minutes from downtown, and 10 minutes from the airport. I can be to the beach in 1.5 hours if traffic complies, to the mountians in about the same time. If you are a history buff, the civil war was waged heavily pretty much in my back yard. Richmond is sort of divided into the north and south side by the James River. You'll hear people from both sides argue why their side is better. South side real estate is cheaper as a rule, and us "north siders" would argure there's a reason for that. I think the traffic and infastructure just isn't as well developed there. Enough rambling for now, feel free to PM me with any questions.

You guys are all a trip and I can't wait to mix into the fold. Once I get in I should get pretty involved as I only know a handful of people down there and this job opportunity will allow me to pick up a second car for work, so the Vette will be getting more track time.

Finally went out with the new boss last night, but we really didn't get into particulars as we made a last minute change in plans and I got taken to the Eagles/Skins game. Fun time, but man do the Eagles blow. So is it safe to assume that y'all (ha ha used it again) are actually Skins fans? If so congrats on the win.

I think Blue Laws vary by county....being a tourist destination you can get beer in Va Beach on Sundays but I don't know about the far western parts of the state; don't worry if you can't get beer you can alway pick up a jug of moonshine.

Denver Bronco fan here

Stormrider may be right about certain counties but State Laws allow all booze on Sunday. Beer & wine in grocery stores & 7-11s. Booze in State Stores. The State stores are open on Sun as well. That just started - not all are open but the bigger ones.

War Between the States? Don't you mean the War of Northern Aggression? I thought that was just in a temporary cease fire.

Alright I have had a couple peole suggest that a single guy would probably enjoy living in Richmond. Anybody have suggestions for places to live that may include garaged/secured parking for the Vette? Will also probably end up buying another car so would need two spots. Would like to be able to garage the Vette.

Thanks.
