hey guys,
well, bad news and good news....
good news is i may have provided myself the opportunity to build a 396 stroker for my car...
bad news is, i broke something and it don't sound good...
sounds like loud clunking from the bottom/front of the engine. i have my fingers crossed and i'm hoping that maybe i just broke my opti (which i thought i was having problems with before, but then it went away for a while) but it sounds more like something heavy clunking around (rod knocking or something)
anyway, due to the fact that i don't have a garage (and the condo association is getting tired of me working on it in the parking lot), it may be a while before i can get the opportunity to tear it apart and figure it out.
i think it broke in the first run, but i didn't realize it till i started my second run...
first run i got a 13.2 but that was with a 1.05 reaction time and a 2.2 60 foot...
so with some traction and a good light i should see low 12's pretty easily.
(errr... if she wasn't broken)
but all in all, it was fun and i can't wait to go back. definately a good way to spend $10 on a fri night.
BTW, you can take your own beer, as long as you drink it out of a cup.
Sorry to hear shes broke...........Ya play and they break though
I just got done doing a rear end , spring, bushing swap in my 68'.........
It broke, but did take 16 years though :D
Well, did you need a tow home or did you limp it home?
It is cheap fun eh :yesnod:
As for the beer, just remember: Alcoholic Beverages: Participating drivers and crewmembers are strictly prohibited from consuming and using drugs and alcoholic beverages.
well, after my run i was barely able to keep it running and it was making a knocking noise, so i parked it and it died... i tried cranking it again, and it was like "wer, wer, clunk, wer, wer, clunk, clunk" it sounded so bad i didn't want to keep messing with it...
i pulled a valve cover off and didn't see anything on the top end (it didn't sound like it was coming from there anyway) so we called our roadside service and they sent us a rollback flatbed...
while we waited for the tow truck, we watched the other cars race...
i didn't drink any beers until after my car broke, but the rest of the gang that wasn't racing had a few...
i know "ya play you pay", just didn't want to have to spend money on this car right now... i'm trying to buy a nice garage with a house attached, and i'm also picking up a used Vette LT1 and 700 R4 to put in my 98 jeep wrangler.
don't think i'll have the garage in time to have her fixed for the open auto-x...
:cry
well, i cranked it up today and it starts and idles fine... can hear slight noise in the background. then give it just a little gas and she starts knocking... sounds like a rod to me (i've only heard a rod knock twice before though, so i'm no expert).
Well...........Then you can mostly rule out catastrophic cam/timing chain failure.
Better start taking it apart, if it starts you have done only so much damage and want to keep it that way :D
No extra parts sticking out of the pan or block is always a good thing :yesnod:
May have wiped a rod/crank bearing or two, only time will tell.
