Default Anyone in Houston need bypass mod for Ti exhaust?

Based on searching old threads there doesn't seem to be a shop people are using here but let me know if there is.

A friend was able to find a shop who can do it and we could potentially get a better deal if we have them do multiple exhausts. I have two confirmed already so let me know if anyone else wants in. More details to come on the shop, price, and whether we'll do 1.5" or 2".

From the threads I've read people are paying between $100 and $200. Granted the $100 jobs weren't going to win any contests for pretty welds based on the pics. We should be able to stay in the low end of that range and still get a good job if there were a few more people interested.

You ought to call Roger at TQPE (Texas Qualty Performance Exhaust) 281-999-8855 check out his web site www.tqpe.com

Thanks, I left him a voicemail. I've got a friend checking with the other shop also. I should know more this week.

From a thread about this previously I doubt that TPQE will be of help, that number has been passed along numerous times in the past with no result.

I am adding to this thread as another way to keep my ear on the floor about getting this done in Houston. If we can get material on the big e site (it's put there) and the mod done for under $150 (100 would be great) I'll be there.

Ed, I'm not sure what you're referring to about TQPE. Roger has done the C6 muffler mod to my Z and has done work to many C4, 5 & 6's that I have seen. TQPE does awesome work and is fantastic to deal with. If you want results, go see him.

My comment relates to my phone call which yielded, " I can weld titanium but don't like to because you can hear it cracking while it cools. You should switch to a stainless system and put a bypass on it and it will flow about as well as the titanium...."

In many previous threads about the Ti mod in Houston this number has come up and in many previous threads the result has been that they don't want to weld titanium. I understand that they do nice work and could sell me a whole new system for a good price and it would work well, BUT I don't want that, I simply want some titanium tubing welded into my titanium exhaust.

I was hopeful since this is just a few blocks from my house, but....

No flames intended, but I have been down this raod before....

-Ed

PS One day I am going to have to have a home mod and home brew party for all the people in the area....

I may be interested. Does anyone have this mod? I'm wondering how much louder it makes the Ti's.

Thanks,

Rick

I never got a call back from TQPE and I'm waiting to hear back from a friend on a local shop he said can do it. I'm open to any other input on a local shop people can vouch for. We definitely have enough interest to get some a great price wherever we end up.

As mentioned, there are several youtube videos if you haven't heard it.

I talked to Roger last week for some work on my 97 - he said he is in the process of moving his shop .. may be out of touch for a short while. I sure was impressed with his work - beautiful welds!

does this hack up the system to where it can't be returned to stock sounding? Is this basically just strait pipes?

Yes, once you add the mod, you won't be able to easily reverse it. But I wouldn't say it totally hacks the system. You do weld two pipe pieces for more straight through exhaust flow.

Here is a pic from another thread where someone had this done. As mentioned it isn't reversible as you can see in the pic. Based on the interest so far you could easily sell it when you are done and recoup most if not all of the additional cost.

There are several sound clips on youtube but here's a few.

Best before and after compare I've seen. Notice the slightly louder idle loudness but much more aggressive sound when you give it gas.

Another before and after sound clip:

This is a more aggressive setup with the bypass mod:
