Default Black List

Ok, so lets start the list. enough is enough. I guess the mods can lock this if they choose. no ranting, no gripping, no ripping just post the member name that has done you wrong. The 1st is on behalf of CCAJUN who is the last person that deserves to be screwed.

If not black listed, at least let you know to be cautious when
dealing with some sellers.

Sounds good at first but what happens if the person you add to the list puts your name up in retaliation when you did nothing wrong?

you have a good point. I guess that why they call it a forum. But they goes against the purpose of this post. I guess it goes back to honesty and integretity. maybe post thier name and a link the post. There was an idea thrown out for a rating system w/ our name, to go along w/ CF MEMBER, CF SENIOR MEMBER. I don't have the perfect solution but I hate watching people get screwed.

The concept of blacklisting is pretty onerous. It has a vigilante aura about it. Further, it has the potential of being misused by using the Forum as a weapon to attack other Forum members.

Somebody suggested that we take a look at the way such issues are handled on another Forum and we’ll do so. If they have figured out something we haven’t, we’ll be glad to benefit from their experience.

As you know, we have rules/guidelines in place that allow Forum members to post a thread concerning any unresolved dispute with another Forum member or with a Forum vendor:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=876845

Those threads are locked once everybody with first-hand information has had a chance to post their version of the facts. Although locked, the threads remain available and can be found by doing a search on the product mentioned in the thread or by the seller or purchaser involved.

The problem with that, of course, is that we now have so many threads in our database that we have had some pretty significant issues in configuring the software and the servers to efficiently handle a search. That situation has improved somewhat today, but is not resolved. My best advice is to limit the search as specifically as possible in order to avoid timing out on the search.

For instance, if you limit your search to a particular section and time frame, you are more likely to be successful than if you just do a database-wide search.

It’s also a problem that the Forum attracts folks who decide they want to take advantage of the large number of consumers here by signing up and trying to make a quick buck. Moderators try to remove the threads that are most obviously not in conformance to Forum rules on sale threads:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=821861

It’s always a good idea to be wary of someone who posts a For Sale thread if they have a low post count. You also should be wary if they appear to be involved in commercial sales and are not supporting vendors.

The Forum has some leverage over supporting vendors if a pattern emerges of problems with customers. Troy has on several occasions removed the supporting vendor status of people who demonstrated they were causing problems for customers, rather than solving problems.

We don’t have any leverage over a non-supporting vendor who signs up, makes two or three posts to sell some Corvette-related items and then disappears. Typically, we don’t know who they are or where to find them, as we would with a supporting vendor. Further, it doesn’t do any good to threaten to ban them from the Forum if they have grabbed somebody’s money and disappeared.

It also can be a problem, however, when somebody buys something on the Forum and then panics if they go a few days without hearing anything from the seller. There have been quite a few instances where that happened. The buyer posted a blistering attack on the seller and then others jumped on the bandwagon to crucify the culprit. Then, we find out a few days later that the seller has just been out of town and the shipment of the item/s purchased has been delayed for some legitimate reason.

In the process, the buyer and a lot of other folks who got caught up in the emotion of the moment find that they have unjustly attacked the seller, a violation of Forum rules:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=876853

My best advice is to:

1. Buy from supporting vendors and Forum members who have a track record.
2. Contact a moderator if you have a concern about a purchase you have made or if you are having problems getting in touch with a member or vendor you have purchased something from.

We can’t monitor all sales transactions and are not always sure whose versions of the “facts” are correct when there is a dispute between two parties. So, we’re not in a position to set up and maintain a rating system for buyers/sellers. But we’ll try to work with folks who are having problems.
