Default Zip "Rip Off "

I have bought a lot of corvette items from Zip corvettes over the years and they were always my first choice since they usually have what you are looking for and the shipping was fair , but recently I am aware of shipping rates going up everywhere , but what happened here is obviously just a rip off . I ordered as you can see in the pictures a very small package of windshield clips so I asked them to send them regular mail in a small pouch to keep the shipping cost down but she said they weren't allowed to send anything over $100. ( not under ?? ) with anything but UPS at almost $20.00 when regular mail would be only $7.00 . When I received it I expected to see something like a one foot square box but here is what I received. Looks like a $7.00 pouch to me !

I hate the shipping game…. Been bit many times…

charged “ oversized” when package was neither large, nor heavy…. And an ordinary box….

that company lost me as a customer forever when they couldn’t even legitimately explain the cost…

Looks like your order was over $100. according to the invoice & they told you upfront that they can't send anything valued at over $100. through USPS, so why is this a rip-off?

I'm guessing the salesperson didn't explain it very well so let me and hopefully you understand where we are coming from, I completely understand as the consumer where you are coming from because all of us are in this boat as well. First our policy on on what we ship USPS. The reason you were forced to go UPS is because USPS has a pretty good chance of losing that package. When they do lose it, who do you think pays for that? If you chose USPS for your shipping and they lost your $100 in windshield clips, would you be ok with that loss and just order them again? I'm guessing that you would want me to replace them, since I don't own USPS I am at risk just as you are so since UPS doesn't lose packages as often as USPS and they do insure it we have to go with them. Now while that package is small, UPS has a algorithm for shipping and so do we, it is how we can ship so quick and ship from a web order. If we had to calculate each package for shipping and then put it back into sales it would take days to ship each package and then multiply that by six to nine hundred packages a day. So our algorithm lightly explained, uses the part size with the cost and weight to figure out shipping. The cost of the part is there to include the added shipping if needed and it is based on averages. There are plenty of packages we lose money, matter of fact more that we make anything on. UPS has several price increases over the last 12 months and we are getting ready to get hit with a big one again thanks to the surge in fuel prices. The best way to get the shipping down is to consolidate the shipping and not ship items one at a time. We all are going through this, I assure you we are not sitting back trying to figure out how to make money on shipping, if anything I am trying to figure out how to not go to far into the red with it. I just had to order motocross tires for my son and I ended up buying two sets of them just to save some on the shipping because I know it is going up and I will have to get another set and the shipping was crazy on them.

You could always take that same package you received with the clips in it to a UPS store and ask them how much to ship it to Zips address. this way you can see how much it costs to ship approximately.

You can have a light box but it counts as a heavy because of the size. Example if you order a fuel line it is going to be very expensive and it's called Dimensional weight. It is how UPS charges, they charge by actual weight and also by how much room it takes up in their vehicles. No idea what it was you bought or who you tried to get to explain it, but we have several people here that have no issue explaining this to anyone. I would prefer we have no shipping costs, but UPS is not in the business of spending money and not getting any in return. We always have the option of walking into our showroom and then you would have no shipping what so ever.
