Default Got scammed, I'm done with this Forum! [merged]

I have been a member here for over 20 years....Bought and sold thousands of $$$ worth of items and always do everything to make sure I get what Ipay for and buyers from me get what they paid for. But I just got screwed for $330 by a scammer who some how got my email and phone number from THIS FORUM! I did not give it to anyone other than the seller through a PM. Now the original seller, who sold the item to someone else, will not respond to me, the forumn has not tried to help in any way, just other members telling me "you got scammed'! Which I already know! It's not the money, I can eat that. It's the fact this forumn is to easy to get scammed on and I can do without the BS. Anyway, good luck to all, it's the world we live in these days.....

All forums are like this. They don't provide any protection if they have/allow for sale posts in regarding to scams outside of banning the scammer.

Just for S&G's, I googled iridelow, that name is on lots of different forums.

What exactly did the forum do to cause you to be scammed?

Sorry to hear you lost money to a scammer. If you have not already done so, I'd recommend that you report the scam to the funding source you used to pay for the item. Scammers typically insist on getting funds through a method that cannot be reversed when the scam is realized, but you still can let them know and, perhaps, they at least will close the scammer's account. If you used a credit card to fund the transaction, you also should report the matter to them as they more often will provide assistance.

You said the Forum has not tried to help you in any way. I could find no report that you had been scammed and needed assistance. I do see the logs show you were warned of a scammer who had PMed you, but that was some time ago and may not be the scammer who you lost money to. I happened across this thread without knowing to look for it.

You assert that the scammer got your email address and phone number from CorvetteForum. The site has no record of your phone number. It isn't information we ask for when people register. You might try doing a Google search for your phone number to see if you get a hit. I'd do the search for you, but I don't know your number. As to your email address, I see in your "user control panel" that you selected the option of allowing other users to send you emails. If you don't want to be emailed in the future, please update that in your user CP. You can do that by going to your "user control panel" where you click on Settings and Options, then Edit Options and then Edit Email Subscriptions. Just click off on the option to receive emails from other community members.

I note in the sales thread where the hood graphic logo was being sold that you posted, "PM sent." The Forum recommends that community members interested in an item offered for sale should contact the seller directly through PM rather than posting their interest in the sale thread. Doing so prevents the scammers who monitor sale threads from knowning to contact you. It also means when you communicate deals through PMs you always know whether you are dealing with the legitimate seller and not a scammer claiming to be the seller.

Going forward, you might want to review these suggestions on how to avoid being scammed online:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...php?f=26&a=552

That's the most recent version of a similar message we have posted multiple times over the past five years.

Unfortunately there are crooks out there who prefer to scam people rather than getting a real job like the rest of us. They continue to scam because it works, but it doesn't have to work. I hope you and others will be suspicious, cautious and deliberate in buying products online in the future so as to help make scamming difficult.

The guy that was selling it was not the scammer, I believe. He did sell it to someone else, because the buyer let me know he bought it and it was a smooth transaction. But the original seller will not respond to me. I have sent him several PM's to find out what happened from his side, but he has not reponded. Here is the phone number of the guy I sent Zelle to.720-602-6056, his voice mail says his name is Ryan. The Zelle account is to a Ryan Goodman. He did answer the phone once and said he would check his account and call me back, he never has, and I have called him a dozen times. The text message I originally got was from this number 864-570-0893, who I thought was the original seller. This guy sent me several text, saying it was boxed up and ready to ship and offered me some car matts as well for a C8, which I bought as well. or at least paid for! He later text me saying he was in the hospital, heart attack, and would ship me the items soon, never di, by then I found out I was scammed. Anyway, $330 gone. But anyone that wants to blow up these numbers,,,,Go for it, I have every day for a week now! This is the original seller. gregkono

First, I'm always sorry, as most are here, that this happens at all and to you. However, if the "original seller" simply sold the part(s) to whomever scammed you, I can see why he would not want to be a party to anyone's victim-hood who may have been taken post-sale (for him). I cannot say in his place that I'd reply to anyone, either. He sold the part and at that point was out-of-the-picture, at least in terms of redress or whatever. I can understand you perhaps wanting more info from him, but from his POV you might be considered, from your own description of contact attempts, to be harassing him. I don't mean to seem non-sympathic, but I'm just presenting another frame-of-reference. All the best, in any event.

As you likely already know, the number you posted resolves to a trucking company in Littleton, CO, but I'd guess the number was spoofed. Still, it wouldn't hurt to call them and tell them someone using their number scammed you. I got a scam phone call recently from somebody who spoofed my own number on caller ID. Nevertheless, I've added the number to the list of known numbers and email addresses scammers use:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...formation.html

The problem with Zelle and other similar funds transmittal services is that they say in the fine print that you should not send money to anyone you do not personally know. Then, I think they use that as an out on having to fraud department investigate and refund your money as most banks will. The irony is that such funding vehicles are a cooperative involving some of the largest banks and I've read recently where Congress is putting pressure on them to get a handle on their services being used by scammers to the detriment of legitimate people.

Write your congressman and ask for legislation to help protect consumers on such transactions. Report suspicious posts/PMs/texts to moderators right away so we can ban them and warn everybody they have contacted via PMs. Ues the guidelines we have posted with recommendations on how to avoid being scammed.

Sorry to hear about that, friend. That's a long time to be here and have that happen. I'm a new member here, but just learned the hard way as well. I'm glad I didn't lose too much but it was intended as a down payment to hold the item until payday, which means what little money I had left for the down payment was just stolen. I let the guy who I thought I was talking to know, he didn't give a ****, lol. I'm just going to buy my item brand new, I don't see any reason left to try to save a few bucks here when I can just stick to the websites that sell the parts I need and pay full price. Anyways, sorry to hear that happened to you. If I was on a jury and the person being accused murdered a scammer with a rubber mallet, I would let the guy walk. Scammers are fair game to do whatever you want to period, in my book. You just have to find them first. Usually some **** hole in Nigeria

Am really confused by the OPs reporting of what happened ... sound like there was A seller (who he says was NOT the scammer) and then perhaps TWO customers, him and someone else?

So, the way I read it - the seller agreed to sell OP something for that amount of $$ but INSTEAD sold it to the 2nd buyer who raved about the transaction being wonderful.

However, OP sent the seller HIS money through Zelle and got NOTHING because seller sold to party #2 ....

Is that right?

And seller is NOT returning OPs calls or money ... but yet HE is NOT the scammer?

I need a beer!!

There's nothing worse than scammers/thieves. The lowest form of life. Having said that, from your post it sounds like there were red flags that you ignored.

I believe there was an original, legit seller.
The OP sent a PM to the original seller, but unfortunately since he wrote in thread he sent a PM, he received a PM reply from a scammer.
The scammer took the money and ran. That is who the OP is calling the seller that doesn't respond.

So, 1 legit seller, that sold stuff to someone. 1 scammer posing as the original, legit seller that scammed the OP.

Get notified of new replies

Here’s how A LOT of scammers operate around here:

-Item is posted for sale by legit seller
-someone interested posted that they’re interested, or that they sent a PM
-scammer sees that post and sends the potential buyer a a message that says something like “it’s still available, text me at ###,###-####” but what the scammer has done is registered as the original seller's username with a MINOR change like a misspelling, or even just adding a period at the end of the original sellers username.
-buyer doesn’t realize it’s actually not the original seller and money is sent. Scam complete.

I no longer reply to a seller that I sent a PM when I’m purchasing an item here. I’ve also had a buyer of my items scammed before. Here’s that thread:

It is disingenuous to describe Zelle's warning as"fine print." When I do a transaction via Zelle there are numerous areas where you are warned about this and you have to affirmatively acknowledge that you read their warning(s).

The original seller has no obligation to respond to you and get in the middle of this. Your mistake was saying "PM sent" in his original for sale thread. A scammer then sent you a PM with a very similar username to the original seller's username. You didn't catch that it was different and you thought you were working with the original seller, but you were then talking to a scammer and sent the scammer your money.
