Properly working headlights is essential for driving your C6 Corvette during the night or in low light conditions. Without functional headlights, it's not only harder to see the road conditions ahead, but other drivers won't be able to see you, which is just as dangerous. The good thing is that the headlight bulb replacement is simple enough to do yourself as long as the proper precautions are taken. The only drawback is that if the proper precautions are ignored, the high voltage, high intensity discharge lamp can shock you or cause injuries.

Materials Needed

  • Jack
  • Jack stands
  • Tire iron
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Torx sockets or bits
  • Ratchet or screwdriver bit holder

Step 1 – Lift the car and remove the front wheel

Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel, which is on the side you will be working on, and raise the front of the car with a jack. Once raised, secure the car by lowering it on to jack stands. Now that the car is secured, remove the lug nuts completely and remove the front wheel.

Step 3 – Remove the headlight bulb cover

Once the access panel has been removed, you'll see the rubber headlight connection covers, which are located on the rear of the low beam and high beam headlight. Press in the push tabs and remove the rubber covers. Once the covers are removed, you'll see the low beam and high beam headlight connections.

Step 4 – Remove the high beam and/or low beam headlight

To remove the low beam headlight, remove the torx screws securing it. To remove the high beam headlight, rotate it and remove it like a conventional halogen bulb.

Warning

The high intensity discharge system produces high voltage and current. In order to reduce the risk of severe shocks and burns, the negative battery cable must be disconnected any time service work is being performed on or around the high intensity discharge system.

Step 5 – Reverse for installation

For installation, install the bulb, the headlight bulb covers, and the panels. Then, lower the car and enjoy your new headlights.
