There’s nothing quite like owning a rare piece of Corvette history. That idea rings true even more so when it comes packaged in the form of a 1970 ZR-1. And it appears that some lucky collector will have a chance to pick up one these classic beauties soon, as one prepares to cross the block.

This 1970 ZR-1, engineered by Corvette legend Zora-Arkus Duntov, is heading to Russo and Steel‘s Monterey Auction, which runs August 18 – 20 in conjunction with the famed Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Quite the collector’s item, this ZR-1 was one of just a few models made with a special racing package.

The ZR-1 also features a number of other unique performance elements over the standard 1970 Corvette package, minus a few of those unnecessary extras that Duntov thought might inhibit the car as a pure racer.

I’m sure there’ll be a lot of people keeping an eye on this one, as it’s expected to fetch a hefty price at auction.
