Default Installing A-Frame Dust Covers

wondering if someone can give advice on how to install the dust covers for the a frames in the engine bay.

I was at my local corvette shop and showed the mechanic the car and we are going to build a checklist of items to have done.

he stated I need to get the dust covers on. I said I had them but did not know how to install as there are no holes. come to find out, back in the 60's the car was smashed in the front and had a new front nose put on and the covers were never installed.

do I drill small holes and push the staples through and bend them?

Yes, drill small holes to push the staples through.

I made the tools pictured on the last page of Dave's pdf. It made installing the staples very easy.

I put the shields in place and made staples from a roll of 18 gauge galvanized wire bought at Tractor Supply. Use a standard set of vise grips to clamp the wire, then fold the ends to make a staple. Took a couple of hours, but it's not too bad especially if the engine is out.

Default Install A-Frame dust covers

Hello,

I seemed to have lost the pdf that showed how to make the tool to install the staples for the dust covers on C2 A-frames.

Wondering if anyone has the PDF or any insight. I did not get around to it last year and would like to get it done before I start driving the car this year as the engine compartment seems to get pretty dirty.

Thanks!

Default Dust covers

Were these only on C2 and later? Did C1 units use a different shield?

Thanks. I did get your email as well, just have not had time to attempt install. I am finding I am missing splash shields and that some of this should have been done when Ihad the body off. Live and learn, I guess.

Also wondering if I cinch the staples in the engine bay or in the fender well, when installing the a-arm shields?

The go through from the engine bay and folded inside the wheel well.

Here is a page from my 65 AIM. The note says to position the staple against the skirt and clinch to shield. I took that to mean that the staple is pushed through from the wheel well side and the legs bent over against the shield in the engine bay.

DZ

That will probably work well except where my steering gear is

Thanks for all the help.
