Feed Grade Molasses for Rust Removal
A while back I started a thread on Evapo-Rust - http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...and-after.html. Although I was pleased with the results I searched for a cheaper alternative and found out about feed grade molasses. A gallon of Evapo-Rust is $20 at Tractor Supply vs. $8 for a gallon of molasses.
In a tub I mixed a 10:1 solution of water to molasses and I have to say I'm pretty happy with the results.
The control arm on the right is after being in the molasses/water solution for three days. I removed it, wire brushed it, and hosed it off.

What is the ph of said bath? Looks like an acid bath cleaning..... Just wondering how safe it is ? Maybe you could package the 10:1 solution and get rich ????
Think I may try this my ownself on a few parts.

Nice! Have a few questions.
Where do you buy feed grade molasses, Agway or similar? Does Tractor Supply have it? How well does the water and molasses mix; does it need to be hot? And finally, did you keep the control arm immersed or just baste it periodically?

Try vinegar?
Vinegar works good also and pretty cheap at Costco. Haven't tried it on large painted parts yet though. But it will destroy magnesium, i have proven that.

You could even bottle up that goop when done with it and resell as "Corvette Flavored Molasses"...
