C7 Corvette: Good Choice for a First Time Sports Car Owner?

C7 Corvette

Corvette Forum member is a truck and Jeep guy who recently fell in love with a C7 Corvette, but is it a good fit?

It’s hard to imagine now, but there once was a time when many of us didn’t own a sports car. A time when we drove some boring, economy-focused box completely devoid of things like performance and soul. Then, at some point, the magic happened. And maybe for some of you, a C7 Corvette was your introduction to the world of performance. But would you recommend it to someone else who’s never owned anything fast in their lives? That’s the question posed by new Corvette Forum member PWRWAGN in this thread.

“I’ve never owned a Corvette or any sports car. To this point my four-wheel toys have been trucks and Jeeps. While I still enjoy, own, and drive them, I have an itch and the need for speed. Over the past year, as I’ve started looking a little more seriously, I have simply fallen for the look of the C7 Corvette. The price for a slightly used car works for my budget. Much of what I’ve read makes the car sound like the right fit. A car that some use as a daily driver, for track use, and everything between. Really sounds like an all around dual purpose sports car.”

Having said that, the OP is asking the Corvette Forum community if the C7 Corvette would be a good choice for him, and is also curious about how much maintenance they require. And as you’d imagine, a slew of members are quick to chime in with some helpful advice. Starting with Woodson, who keeps things simple and to the point.

“Your usage would match the majority of Corvette owners’ usage. Super basic maintenance considering the capability of the car.”
Meanwhile, duckvett goes into a bit more detail with his response.
‘The C7 Corvette is a refined, multi-dimensional sports car. It can be very tame and comfortable for around-town driving, responsive and agile for those mountain roads, and ‘hell on wheels’ fast for those quick bursts on the freeway. But there are as many opinions for Corvette usage as there are Corvette owners. While Corvettes are certainly capable track cars, they are definitely not wasted by not using them solely as a dedicated track car. Go test drive one and prepare to be amazed.”

SiawnOverseas has nothing but glowing reviews to say about his car, too.
“Daily driver here. Absolutely amazing car for spirited drives in the hills of Napa, easy to use it around town with the enormous trunk space. Ultra reliable in its default configuration. Absolutely gorgeous head turner. I’m one of the few that fell in love with the track after having purchased the car. I run in the HPDE non-competition track events where the car’s amazing potential can be fully realized. It’s awesome having a car that can do both.”

Not that we’re surprised, but so far, virtually everyone has recommended the C7 Corvette. Glowingly, at that. So we’re curious to hear what you think. Would you recommend the C7 to a first-time sports car buyer? Or is there another generation you think would be a better fit? Head over here and let us (and the OP) know!
